In a significant move to alleviate poverty and improve livelihoods, the Kogi State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria, today 02/10/2025 launched a cash transfer program for the less privileged in the state. The flag off ceremony, held at the Glass House, Government House Lokoja, was attended by distinguished guests, esteemed colleagues, and members of the press.

The State Coordinator of Kogi State Social Investment Program Agency (KOSSIPA), Hajia Aishat Oyiza Omade, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for their gesture of empowering the less privileged at the grassroots level.

In her remarks, Hajia Oyiza charged beneficiaries to keep their ATM cards privately, saying, “This card carries ₦75,000, don’t give your card to anybody including me.” She said. She also praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, describing him as the Chief Servant of the State who believes in infrastructure and human development.

According to the Manager, Kogi State Cash Transfer Unit, Mr Olorunmosunle Moses Kehinde, the Team pledged to work tirelessly to build a future where poverty is a distant memory and prosperity is a shared reality in Kogi State.

The team further reiterated its commitment to work vigorously with the government and other stakeholders towards the progress of Kogi State. They expressed gratitude to the State Coordinator for her leadership and to the management of Tagpay and Mintyn Microfinance Banks for their collaboration.

The event highlighted the collaborative effort between the Kogi State Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria to create a brighter future for the people of Kogi State. The team aims to build a future where every child has access to education, every family enjoys basic life amenities, and opportunities abound for all.

Beneficiaries of the program have expressed their gratitude and plans to utilize the funds effectively.

According to one of the beneficiaries, Malama Saretu Umoru, she promised to invest her money in her Pap (Akamu) business and use part of the money to repair her grounding engine to make Akamu production easier for her. Similarly, Malam Suleiman Yusuf Rufai expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the laudable program, stressing that as an entrepreneur, he would invest the money collected in his business for expansion.

The cash transfer program is a significant step towards achieving the goal of a poverty-free Kogi State. The Kogi State Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria are working together to make this vision a reality. With the commitment and dedication of the team, it is expected that this program will have a lasting impact on the lives of the less privileged in Kogi State.
