KOGI STATE NYSC COORDINATOR PAYS COURTESY VISIT ON KOGI POLY RECTOR
… Commends Him for the Welfare of Corps Members
The Kogi State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Femi Osungbohun, has commended the Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Dr Salisu Ogbo Usman for the welfare of corps members posted to the institution.
The State Coordinator disclosed this during a courtesy visit on Friday, 31st May, 2024, he commended the institution’s commitment to the NYSC scheme.
While appreciating the Rector and management team for their dedication to corps members’ welfare, Mr. Osungbohun humbly requested an increase in the monthly stipend for corps members and also pleaded that Corps members gain access to the medical facilities of the Institution.
He further acknowledged the institution’s support and prioritisation of corps members’ well-being and encouraged continued collaboration to enhance their experience.
In his words “ you are our major partner and I am impressed with the way corps members are being utilised in various departments and units of the Polytechnic which is a clear demonstration of the institution’s support for the NYSC programme and its commitment to the development and integration of NYSC core values.”
Mr. Osungbohun charged corps members to serve as worthy ambassadors and make meaningful contributions to the institution’s development, while also urging them to conduct themselves with integrity and avoid any behaviour that could bring shame or discredit to the programme.
Responding, the Rector, Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman, thanked the State Coordinator for his commendation, emphasising the institution’s pride in partnering with NYSC to develop corps members’ skills and abilities.
He noted that his administration has retained a significant number of corps members who have distinguished themselves and would continue to do so.
Dr. Usman debunked the recent rumour of bandit attack on the Institution, calling it a malicious political ploy to cause panic and anxiety, and vowed to take action against those responsible.
Dr Usman used the occasion to announce that the meager monthly stipend for corps members was increased by the present administration and he further acceded to the State Coordinator’s request for an increment in the corps members’ monthly stipend, effective immediately.
He also graciously approved the State Coordinator’s request, granting corps members access to the medical facilities demonstrating his commitment to the well-being of Corp members.
He highlighted that his administration has successfully reclaimed, renovated and relocated the corps members’ lodge back to the campus to ensure their safety and security.
Dr. Usman revealed that his administration has consistently maintained the standard payment of medical corps members’ monthly stipends, equivalent to what is obtainable at other government hospitals and requested that more medical corps members be posted to the institution as they will be given special preference.
Highlights of the visit were exchange of souvenirs and an inspection tour of the Polytechnic’s medical centre by the NYSC officials to check the facilities. The State Coordinator was satisfied.
