Kogi State’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo: A Champion of Carrot-over-Stick Leadership

By Abah Benjamin Eneojoh

In an era where leadership is often synonymous with authoritarianism, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, Kogi State’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, is charting a different course. Rather than relying on the traditional “stick” approach to motivate staff, Fanwo has embraced the “carrot” model, prioritizing encouragement, recognition, and empowerment to drive productivity and performance.

Under Fanwo’s leadership, the Ministry of Information and Communication has undergone a significant transformation, with staff morale and job satisfaction soaring. By fostering a work environment built on trust, open communication, and constructive feedback, Fanwo has created a culture of collaboration and innovation.

The “carrot” approach has yielded remarkable results, with staff demonstrating increased dedication, creativity, and commitment to excellence. By recognizing and rewarding outstanding performance, Fanwo has encouraged healthy competition and a growth mindset among team members.

Hon. Kingsley Fanwo’s leadership philosophy is a breath of fresh air in a sector often plagued by bureaucratic red tape and hierarchical rigidity. His commitment to empowering staff and fostering a positive work environment has set a new standard for effective leadership in the public sector.

Among the recipients of the June edition of the reward are Mrs Mariam Teni Adams, Mr Odofin Olorutimi and Mr Adegboyega Segun while the people whose article ranked best are , Princess Funsho Sumanu, Mal Abubakar Shuaibu and Mrs Jumoke Ajani

By choosing the “carrot” over the “stick,” Fanwo has not only improved productivity and performance but also inspired a new generation of leaders to adopt a more compassionate and inclusive approach to management.
