Press Release: Urgent Appeal for Fair Leadership Practices within the Kogi State Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Kogi West Stakeholders Forum
The Kogi West Stakeholders Forum, comprised of leaders from the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in the Kogi West senatorial district, convened today in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area. Following our Stakeholders Engagement meeting, we have reached the following resolutions:
We, the leaders of NUT Kogi West, wish to express our profound concerns regarding the recent actions of the State Chairman, which we believe constitute an abuse of power. There have been attempts to mislead and obstruct the gathering of stakeholders in Kabba, and we firmly assert that such efforts will not succeed. The Kogi West chapter will not allow any individual to impose their will upon us.
It has come to our attention that branch chairmen from Kogi West were discouraged from attending today’s meeting. However, we stand united in our belief that the Chairmanship position, which rightfully belongs to Kogi West, is non-negotiable.
We commend the Education Secretary, for wisely disregarding the directive from the branch chairman Alegbemi Micheal who claimed order from state NUT said the leadership/Stakeholders of the bloc should not meet to have meeting in any of the school premises.
The ES thereby allowed it to proceed as planned. We are resolute in our commitment to utilize every constitutional avenue available to reclaim what is rightfully ours through democratic processes.
We respectfully appeal to Deputy Governor Comrade Joel Salifu to ensure a level playing field, fostering fair practices within the NUT. We urge that Comrade Yakubu Dauda be held accountable for his actions, which allegedly aimed to disrupt the meeting. It appears he anticipated that the gathering would unite us in support of the gentleman’s rotation arrangement within the NUT.
It is now the turn of the Kogi West Senatorial District, and we are determined to ensure that our rightful opportunity is recognized. We will not tolerate any schemes or maneuvers by the incumbent Chairman, Yakubu Dauda, to retain his position.
Furthermore, we acknowledge that, the Education Secretary of Kabba Bunu Local Government Area, was instructed to prevent the meeting from taking place at the Demonstration School opposite the police station in Kabba. However, he demonstrated commendable judgment by allowing the meeting to take place.
The action triggered the stakeholders and teachers of Kogi west to start asking questions?
Our position is clear: Kogi West must assume the role of Executive Chairman Kogi State NUT
