KSU KABBA PARLEYS NASRDA-CAR, TO BECOME CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN ATMOSPHERIC RESEARCH

29th November, 2023

The Vice-Chancellor of Kogi State University, Kabba, Professor KIT Eniola, on Wednesday, played host to the Executive Director of the Centre for Atmospheric Research (CAR), National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr Ibrahim Yakubu Tudunwada.

In his welcome address, Prof. Eniola noted the commitment of the government of His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello to education. He shared the vision of KSU Kabba to be a provider of solutions to society’s problems as espoused by Gov Yahaya Bello, noting that the university was going to be active in impactful research.

The vice chancellor expressed the interest of the university to collaborate with CAR in atmospheric research, noting that the university was located between areas of industrial activities which makes the care for the atmosphere an area of interest. He requested the Director to establish the Centre within the university, assuring him that the University would partner with NASRDA-CAR to nurture it into a Centre of Excellence for Atmospheric Research considering the infrastructure already in place, and the quality of manpower available to the university.

The Executive Director, Dr Tudunwada noted that the vision of the university as shared by the Vice-Chancellor aligns properly with that of the mandate of the Centre. He further noted that the university is strategically positioned to be a leading light in the area of atmospheric research, which according to him, would make it a solution centre for atmospheric challenges including those posed by industrialization.

The NASRDA-CAR delegation included the Head of Administration, Mr Abdul Ali Danjuma; the Head of Instrument and Design, Engr Umar Abubakar Saleh PhD; and the Head of Research and Development, Dr Najib Yusuf Galadanci.

Present at the meeting were members of the University Management including the Registrar, Dr Joel Amodu Usman; Director of Academic Planning, Professor Olanrewaju Ifatimehin; Director of Physical Planning, Dr Hassan Otuoze.

Others include Chief Security Officer of the university, Mr Samuel Olubato and the University Public Relations Officer, Mr Tade J. Oshaloto ANIPR.

The Centre for Atmospheric Research (CAR) is a world-class research and development centre committed to research and capacity building in the atmospheric and related sciences. It is dedicated to the understanding of the atmosphere – the air around us and the interconnected processes that make up the Earth system – from the ocean floor through the ionosphere to the Sun’s core. It was established in 2013 by the NASRDA.
