KSU Kabba was to right past wrongs, Kogi Assembly Speaker says

… applauds Gov Bello for love for education, Kogi students

The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf has said the reason for giving speedy passage to the law establishing recently founded Kogi State University, Kabba was to right past wrongs suffered by one of the most educationally influential part of the country.

The Speaker stated this in a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Yabagi Mohammed.

The statement recorded the speaker to have stated this on Monday while receiving the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Lokoja, who decorated the speaker with a medal as one of their Hall of Famer.

According to the speaker, people like Late Sunday Awoniyi and other prominent individuals from the former Kabba Region of the country were intellectual power houses the North was proud of, noting that it was an aberration that their immediate community was without a university, a thing that has been corrected by the new university.

While applauding the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for his demonstration of love for students in the state, he expressed confidence in the ability of the Governor to exploit the new students loan facility recently introduced by the federal government under President Bola Tinubu when it finally commences.

He said the Governor has shown passion for education as a priority in the thematic areas of the New Direction Administration, adding that the sector has recorded more recognition than expected.

The Speaker stressed the need for students to continue to give their unalloyed support to the administration, stressing that Governor Bello has proven to be pro-student, especially with the uninterrupted calendar his administration has designed for higher educations in the state since assumption of office.

Rt Hon Yusuf said the assembly was working on coming up with a law to recognise exemplary citizens of the state origin across the country and across ages embodying exemplary characters in their chosen professions, and expressed confidence that students and the youths would be among such persons.

Earlier in their addresses, the student leaders extolled the virtues of the speaker, describing him as students friendly and committed to course of the younger generation before decorating him as a Hall of Famer.

The students, led by the North Central Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Anzaku Shedrack Onye, praised the speaker for his role in ensuring accelerated passage of the law establishing Kogi State University, Kabba.

They said the new institution means another vote for the region in NANS, stating that posterity would be kind to him when the issue of circumstances surrounding the institution’s establishment are discussed.

Present at the occasion were the majority leader and his deputy and members representing Lokoja I and Ajaokuta State Constituencies respectively.
