Speaking during a media briefing at the State Command Headquarters, Ilorin, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the State Commandant, Commandant Abbas Nda Mohammed, disclosed that the Command secured a life imprisonment sentence against a convicted sexual offender during the period under review, reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to ensuring justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence.

The Commandant revealed that the Gender Unit recorded 36 cases of domestic violence, with 12 currently undergoing mediation. He added that the Command also handled 19 child custody disputes, of which 15 have been resolved, while four remain pending.

According to him, the Command received 38 cases of child abandonment, with 6 successfully resolved, while efforts are ongoing to conclude investigations and ensure the welfare of the affected children.

Commandant Abbas further disclosed that 9 abduction cases were reported during the period, adding that 4 victims have since been reunited with their families through the timely intervention of the Corps.

He also stated that 8 cases involving rape, sexual assault and child molestation are currently before competent courts for prosecution, stressing that the Command remains resolute in ensuring offenders are brought to justice in accordance with the law.

While commending officers of the Gender Unit for their professionalism, dedication and commitment, the Commandant urged members of the public to promptly report cases of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual offences and other forms of gender-based violence to the NSCDC for swift intervention.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of women, children and other vulnerable members of society through effective investigation, strategic collaboration with relevant stakeholders and the diligent enforcement of the law.
