LASBCA: CHAIRMAN, RESIDENTS OF ROYAL ESTATE ALONG LASU-IGANDO ROAD, LAGOS ASK FOR FORGIVENESS OVER MISLEADING PUBLICATION

The Chairman, Royal Estate, along LASU-Igando Road in Alimosho Local Government, Isheri-Olofin, Lagos, Williams Adeyemi and it’s residents had tendered sincere and unreserved apology to the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and its Mosan Okunola, District Head, Arc. Sayo Omisore over a misleading statement published in the Punch Newspaper on Friday, July 26th, 2024, on page 11, titled “Residents Alleged Brutalisation as Lagos Intensifies Building Control.”

According to the Chairman on behalf of the residents, the apology was deemed necessary in order to clarify their stance, rectify any misunderstandings, and express our profound regret for the distressed and reputational damage that the publication may have caused to Arc. Sayo Omisore and LASBCA in general.

“The statements made in the publication do not reflect the collective views or intentions of the residents of Royal Estate. I acknowledge that the claims made in the article were not only factually inaccurate but also conveyed sentiments that were neither fair nor just to the persons and institutions involved” he stated.

“First and foremost, it is important to state unequivocally that the Royal Estate community holds LASBCA in high regards and the Agency’s mandates to enforce Building Regulations and ensure the safety and structural integrity of properties across Lagos State are both necessary and commendable. We recognize the challenges faced by LASBCA in performing its duties and the critical role it plays in safeguarding the lives and properties of residents within Lagos. The work that LASBCA does is crucial, and as responsible residents, we are committed to supporting their efforts in any way we can” he added.

“In light of this, I am deeply troubled that the statements I made in the aforementioned publication could be interpreted as an attack on the integrity and professionalism of the Agency and its officers. This was never my intention. The residents of Royal Estate and I have always sought to maintain a cooperative and mutually respectful relationship with LASBCA and its officers. Any suggestion to the contrary is deeply regretted”

“Arc. Sayo Omisore, in particular, has been a dedicated and diligent public servant. Since her appointment as the LASBCA District Head covering Mosan Okunola in Alimosho axis of the State, she has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to upholding the Agency’s standards and ensuring compliance with Building Regulations. Her efforts in maintaining order and safety in the building sector are well recognized, and we appreciate the often-challenging nature of her responsibilities”

“The allegations made in the Punch publication, which included claims of harassment, brutality, and extortion, were not only unfounded but also damaging. I regretted that these claims were made without sufficient verification and without giving Arc. Omisore the opportunity to respond to the allegations before they were published. This lack of due process has led to a situation where false and misleading information was disseminated to the public, causing undue harm to the reputation of Arc. Omisore and LASBCA”

“I wish to make it clear that any grievances or concerns I may have had with LASBCA’s enforcement actions should have been addressed through appropriate and constructive channels. The residents of Royal Estate and I have always believed in dialogue and collaboration as the best means of resolving disputes. I regretted that the publication in question deviated from this principle and instead resorted to making unsubstantiated claims in a public forum”

“It is also necessary to clarify that the statements made in the publication regarding alleged financial demands and improper conduct by Arc. Omisore were entirely baseless. These statements were made without evidence and do not reflect the truth. I understand that such allegations can have serious implications for the individuals involved, and I deeply regret that these unfounded accusations were made in the first place”

“Furthermore, we acknowledged the confusion and frustration that may have risen from the publication’s portrayal of the events leading up to the enforcement action by LASBCA. The article suggested that the actions of LASBCA were excessive and unwarranted, which was not a fair or accurate representation of the situation. We understand that LASBCA operates within the framework of the law and that its officers are well trained to carry out their duties with professionalism and restraint. We regretted any suggestion to the contrary and apologized for the misleading narrative that was presented”

“I also wish to address the specific claims I made in the publication as my account of events, as published, were not an accurate reflection of the incident in question. Upon further reflection and in consultation with other members of the Royal Estate community, it has become clear that my account was colored by personal emotions and did not provide a balanced or objective perspective. I regret that this account was published without the necessary context and without giving due consideration to the impact it would have on the individuals and institutions involved”

“In light of the above, I, and entire residents of Royal Estate Phase 1, wish to retract the statements made in the Punch publication in its entirety. We recognized that these statements were harmful and did not serve the interests of the Royal Estate community or our relationship with LASBCA. We are committed to working towards rebuilding trust and fostering a positive and collaborative relationship with Arc. Omisore and her team at LASBCA”. He concluded.

We once again extend our deepest apologies to Arc. Sayo Omisore and the Lagos State Building Control Agency. We regret any harm that has been caused by the publication in question and are committed to making amends.
