A devastating fire broke out late last night at the Bayan Tasha Market in Damaturu, destroying shops and goods worth millions of naira. The blaze, which gutted significant parts of the popular marketplace, left traders counting their losses and the community in shock.
The exact cause of the inferno remains unknown at the time of filing this report. However, witnesses and residents described the fire as intense, quickly spreading across several sections of the market before it was brought under control.
The heroic efforts of the Damaturu Fire Service and good Samaritans prevented the fire from causing even greater damage. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident, though the destruction of property and goods has been described as “unquantifiable.”
One affected resident, Mustapha Mohammed Gujba, shared his thoughts on Facebook, reflecting the shared grief of the community:
“Today, we have received news of a fire outbreak at the market behind the motor park in Damaturu town. To those affected by this incident, we pray that Allah grants you comfort and replaces what you have lost with something better.”
The Yobe State government and other relevant authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. Meanwhile, traders and residents are calling for immediate support to help the affected individuals rebuild their livelihoods.
This tragic event underscores the need for enhanced fire prevention measures and infrastructure in marketplaces across the region. For now, the people of Damaturu stand united in their prayers and support for those impacted by the inferno.
