The member representing Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, has commissioned the newly constructed Okeaga Road in Odo-Ere, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The commissioning marks another addition to the road infrastructure projects being undertaken by the federal lawmaker as part of efforts to improve rural connectivity, facilitate commercial activities and promote economic development across the constituency.
Speaking at the ceremony, Abejide described road infrastructure as a critical component of community development, stressing that accessible roads are essential for economic growth, social interaction and improved livelihoods.
“Today, our gathering goes beyond the commissioning of a road. We are here to celebrate vision translated into reality, promises transformed into tangible outcomes, and leadership measured by impact,” he said.
The lawmaker explained that road construction and rehabilitation had remained among the priorities of his representation since he assumed office, noting that improved road networks would make transportation easier, enhance the movement of agricultural produce and strengthen commercial activities within rural communities.
He disclosed that several roads across the federal constituency had been rehabilitated, while other projects were at different stages of completion. He assured residents that additional road construction and rehabilitation projects would be undertaken to address infrastructure needs across Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro.
Abejide also highlighted the ongoing construction of the Oja Opè market in Odo-Ere, which he said was approximately 90 per cent complete.
According to him, the ultra-modern market, located around the Okeaga axis, features enclosed and open shops alongside other facilities designed to support traders, expand commercial opportunities and stimulate the local economy.
The market project is expected to provide a more organised trading environment for residents and traders, while complementing the benefits of improved road access in the area.
He reiterated his commitment to investing in rural infrastructure, emphasising that better road connectivity would help unlock economic opportunities, ease the movement of people and goods, and create an enabling environment for community development.
The commissioning ceremony attracted prominent leaders from Yagba West, community stakeholders and other dignitaries who gathered to witness the official opening of the road project.
The commissioning of the Okeaga Road, alongside the ongoing Oja Opè market project, underscores the importance of infrastructure development in improving access to markets and strengthening economic activities in Odo-Ere and neighbouring communities.
