LEKE ABEJIDE ORDERS ASSESSMENT OF 71 COMMUNITIES OVER ₦10M SUPPORT, PLANS SECOND TRANCHE
ABUJA — The member representing Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, has directed the Leke Abejide Foundation (LAF) to commence an on-the-spot assessment of the 71 communities that received ₦10 million each under his grassroots development support programme.
The intervention totaled ₦710 million.
In a statement issued by Abejide’s Special Adviser on Public Communications, Bashiru Abdul Mohammed, the assessment, according to the lawmaker, is intended to determine how beneficiaries have utilized the funds and to identify communities that deployed the money for the development interventions for which it was provided.

Abejide disclosed this in a message to his supporters on Saturday, directing the foundation’s executives to embark on an inspection tour of the beneficiary communities.
He said communities that had judiciously utilized the initial support would be considered for a second tranche of ₦10 million when the next phase of the intervention begins.
“The LAF executives are about to go round to assess the communities that have judiciously used their funds and mark them for the second tranche of ₦10 million each when the time comes,” Abejide said.
The initial intervention was launched on May 8, 2026, to mark the lawmaker’s birthday, with each of the 71 beneficiary communities receiving ₦10 million for community-driven development initiatives.
The scheme covered communities across Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopamuro Local Government Areas. Beneficiaries were expected to channel the funds toward projects based on their respective community needs.
The latest directive signals the foundation’s move to evaluate the impact of the first phase before determining beneficiaries for another round of funding.
The inspection team is expected to document projects executed with the funds, assess their level of completion, and establish whether the grants were deployed in line with the objectives of the intervention.
If implemented, the proposed second tranche would bring another round of ₦10 million support to communities that meet the foundation’s assessment criteria.
The development has also generated reactions among Abejide’s supporters across the constituency, who described the community-based funding model as a departure from the conventional approach to constituency interventions.
They commended the lawmaker for allowing communities to identify and prioritize projects according to their needs, while urging beneficiaries to ensure accountability in the utilization of the funds.
Supporters across Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopamuro expressed appreciation for the initiative and pledged continued support for the lawmaker.
According to the statement, the supporters also prayed for Abejide’s continued strength and success in his legislative responsibilities and pledged to support his political decisions beyond the 2027 general elections.
The assessment exercise is expected to provide the foundation with a clearer picture of the impact of the first tranche and guide decisions on the proposed second phase of the community development intervention.
