LG Election: Ebonyi Journalist Declares Interest for Ishielu Chairmanship Poll
A former Vice Chairman of Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi state Council, Comrade Benjamin Nworie has started consultations on his interest to contest for the chairmanship position of Ishielu Local Government during the forthcoming Council election in the state.
Nworie, who is a veteran journalist and newspaper publisher noted that his desire to vie for the position was due long marginalisation of the old Ezzagu zone in the Chairmanship position of the council.
Speaking after his visitations to some stakeholders and groups, he advocated that in the spirit of fairness, equity and justice, he should be considered for the position after over two decades that his people occupied the position.
“With the release of timetable for local government elections by Ebonyi state Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC), I have started my consultations to contest for the chairmanship position of Ishielu Local Government area. For over two decades, the people of old Ezzagu zone has not occupied the position and for the seek of equity, justice and fairness, it’s time for our zone to be considered”.
“I have declared my interest to contest for the position and appealing to our stakeholders to support me. As a media practitioner, who has garnered experience and knowledge, I am competent to offer purposeful leadership to my Council”.
“Most importantly, Ezzagu zone is in dire need of government presence in addressing infrastructural need of my people. Apart from the divine touch of our governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru who awarded the construction of Ezillo-Ezzagu road, there’s no road access to Ezzagu communities”.
Nworie, who was also a former member of the board of Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC) applauded his ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for its deep rooted internal democracy and free participation for members of the party.
He further called on all the people and stakeholders of Ishielu Local Government to support his ambition to domesticate the good governance of Nwifuru’s government to the council area.
