Miliki Challenges Critics, Demands Accountability Over Kogi’s ₦24.7bn Federation Allocation

By Our Correspondent

The Executive Director of Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution, Idris Miliki Abdul, has challenged critics and political actors in Kogi State to look inward and assess the level of development in their own communities before making sweeping claims about governance and performance.

Miliki made the call while stressing the need for citizens to continue asking critical questions about the utilisation of public resources and the delivery of basic social amenities across the state.

According to him, those who make the loudest political noise should first critically examine the actual condition of roads, hospitals, schools, healthcare delivery, electricity supply and other essential infrastructure in their respective villages and communities.

He questioned the tangible impact that political appointments have had on the communities of those occupying public offices, asking whether such appointments had translated into meaningful development for the people at the grassroots.

“Those who make the loudest noise should first look inward and critically examine the real state of roads, hospitals, schools, healthcare delivery, electricity supply, and other basic amenities in their own villages and communities,” Miliki stated.

He further asked: “What tangible transformation have their appointments actually brought to these places?”

The human rights advocate maintained that public discourse should not be driven by political sentiment, but by facts, accountability and the actual welfare of citizens.

Miliki also called for sustained scrutiny of the finances of the Kogi State Government, noting that the state reportedly received ₦24.7 billion from the Federation Account last week.

Against this backdrop, he demanded greater transparency regarding the state’s wage bill and the remuneration of workers.

“Just last week, the Kogi State government received ₦24.7 billion from the Federation Account. Against this backdrop, how much exactly is the salary of state workers?” he queried.

He insisted that citizens must not be intimidated from demanding explanations from those entrusted with public resources, stressing that asking questions about governance is a legitimate civic responsibility.

“We must continue to ask hard questions and speak out without fear,” Miliki declared.

His remarks come amid continuing public conversations over revenue inflows, workers’ welfare, infrastructure development and the effectiveness of government spending in Kogi State.

Miliki urged citizens, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to remain vigilant and demand accountability, transparency and measurable development from public office holders.
