MINISTER ATA REACTS TO CIRCULATING WARNING LETTER: “I HAVE A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO EXPRESS MY VIEWS”
By Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu Democracy Newsline Newspaper 22th November 2025.
The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, has reacted to a letter of warning said to have been issued to him, which surfaced widely on social media before reaching him through official channels. In a statement he personally signed, the Minister described the situation as “unfortunate and inappropriate,” noting that no member of the Federal Executive Council or any party official should first encounter an official communication on social media before receiving it formally.
According to Ata, although the letter has been trending across different platforms, it failed to specify any particular statement, action, or behaviour for which he was allegedly being cautioned. He noted that even the so-called warning contained nothing demanding a serious or formal reaction from him.
He emphasized that, as a Nigerian citizen, he enjoys full constitutional rights to express his personal opinions without intimidation or misrepresentation. The Minister stressed that he had never at any point—directly or indirectly—claimed that citizens must follow any individual’s views or that any political figure’s stance must be taken as the official position of the party.
“All my public remarks,” he said, “are made strictly in my personal capacity as a responsible citizen empowered by the constitution.”
Ata reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to promoting the beneficial policies of the Federal Government under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. He described himself as a loyal supporter and admirer of the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, vowing to continue defending the administration’s developmental vision.
He further reiterated that he remains a dedicated member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), actively contributing to the implementation and dissemination of the government’s programmes aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.
The Minister concluded by calling for mutual respect and proper administrative processes within government institutions, expressing hope that his clarifications would be received “in dignity and goodwill.”
