NATIONAL HAJJI COMMISSION UNDER FIRE.
The recent appointment of the management and staff of the National Hajj Commission by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has led to significant disappointment among Muslims globally, especially Nigerian Muslims. The mismanagement of the N90 billion 2024 Hajj subsidy has come under investigation by the EFCC. The commission’s officials have reportedly been involved in financial malpractice, with the EFCC recovering SR314,098 from them. This situation indicates severe corruption at the highest levels of the Commission. It is crucial that President Tinubu take immediate action to remove these officials. The consistent mismanagement of religious affairs undermines the development and integrity of our religion, which is one of the five pillars of Islam.
I am express my deep concerns regarding the current management of the National Hajji Commission. It has come to my attention that the individuals appointed to lead this esteemed institution, presumably by the President, are being perceived as corrupt. This situation is particularly disheartening given the crucial role the Commission plays in the Islamic faith and the sacred duty of ensuring a fair and honest pilgrimage process.
The profiles and actions of these appointed individuals raise serious questions about their integrity and commitment to the values of Islam. It is troubling to see such individuals being referred to as “Malams” while failing to uphold the principles of honesty and accountability that are central to our religion. Their conduct appears to undermine the trust and respect that should be associated with their roles, leading to a sense of betrayal among the Muslim community.
The integrity of the National Hajji Commission is vital for maintaining the trust of the millions of Muslims who rely on it for a fair and transparent pilgrimage process. The perception of corruption and dishonesty within its management not only damages the Commission’s reputation but also affects the religious sentiments and trust of the Muslim community at large.
I urge you to address these concerns with the seriousness they deserve and to take appropriate measures to ensure that the management of the National Hajji Commission operates with the highest level of integrity and transparency. It is essential that those entrusted with such significant responsibilities act in accordance with the principles of justice and honesty that our faith upholds.
