New NKFI Rector Targets Revenue Generation, Skills Development

The newly appointed Rector of the Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute (NKFI), Lokoja, Dr. Onumoh Ahmed Yahaya, has unveiled plans to transform the institution into a revenue-generating centre while strengthening its capacity to produce industry-ready graduates through quality technical and vocational education.

Speaking on Tuesday during a brief handover ceremony at the institute’s conference room in Lokoja, Dr. Yahaya said his administration would aggressively utilise the institute’s facilities, including its automobile workshop and electrical department, to generate income for the institution and the Kogi State Government.

He added that the institute would also explore the production of solar panels and other commercially viable ventures.

The rector pledged to reposition the institute for greater efficiency, improved service delivery and academic excellence, noting that his administration would work diligently to realise the vision behind the establishment of the institution.

According to him, the institute was created to reduce unemployment by equipping Nigerian youths with practical technical and vocational skills that meet the demands of the labour market.

He said NKFI would continue to focus on developing a highly skilled workforce through the transfer of South Korean technological expertise and adherence to global industry standards.

Dr. Yahaya identified the institute’s major training areas as engineering programmes such as electrical installation, automobile diagnostics and welding; technology courses including cybersecurity, networking and web design; and vocational programmes covering fashion design, plumbing and other practical skills.

He also listed academic excellence, teamwork and innovation among the key priorities of his administration.

The rector assured members of staff that their welfare would receive due attention, stressing that a motivated workforce was essential to delivering quality service and driving the transformation of the institution.

“I believe that when staff are adequately motivated, they will be better positioned to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the institute,” he said.

He appealed to staff to support his administration in achieving the institute’s mandate and consolidating its position as a centre of excellence in technical and vocational education.

Earlier, members of staff described his appointment as a new beginning for the institute and expressed confidence in his ability to reposition it for greater achievements.

The Registrar, alongside other management and staff members, pledged their full cooperation and support to enable the new rector to realise his vision for the institution.
