KANO – In a remarkable display of appreciation, leadership, and enduring institutional partnership, the 24th Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), Wudil, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Patrick A. Atayero, MSc (UK), MBA (USA), psc, mspsp, paid a special courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Dr. Ibrahim Geidam, CON, fcna, fcpa, fimcn, at his private residence in Kano on Friday, July 24, 2026.

The visit, conducted in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflected the deep mutual respect between the leadership of the Nigeria Police Academy and the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs. It also underscored the importance of sustained collaboration in advancing reforms, professionalism, and excellence in police education and training.

Accompanying the Commandant were key members of the Academy’s senior management team, including the Provost, Professor Salisu Adamu Abdullahi; the Director of Works and Physical Infrastructure, Commissioner of Police (CP) Engr. Musa Muhammad; and the Director of Courses and Training, CP Basiran Ishaku Markus.

The home setting created an opportunity for frank and productive discussions, during which AIG Atayero briefed the Minister on the significant milestones, institutional reforms, infrastructural improvements, and academic progress achieved during his tenure as the Academy’s 24th Commandant. The engagement also provided an avenue to reflect on the shared commitment to strengthening the nation’s premier police training institution.

A major highlight of the visit was the formal invitation extended to Senator Geidam to attend the Commandant’s Pulling-Out Parade, scheduled for Monday, July 27, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. on the Muhammadu Buhari GCFR Parade Ground within the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

The ceremony is expected to make history as the first official Pulling-Out Parade to be held in honour of an outgoing Commandant of the Academy—an event regarded as a significant milestone in the institution’s history and a symbol of the growing tradition of honouring exemplary leadership and dedicated service.

In an emotional moment during the meeting, AIG Atayero expressed profound appreciation to the Minister for the unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement he received throughout his tenure. Speaking with warmth and humility, the Commandant remarked that if he were ever to write a book chronicling his journey as the 24th Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, the invaluable contributions of Senator Geidam would undoubtedly deserve an entire chapter.

The statement drew smiles from those present and reflected the close working relationship that had developed between both leaders in their shared pursuit of institutional excellence.

Responding, Senator Geidam expressed delight at receiving the Commandant and his delegation, describing the visit as thoughtful and deeply appreciated. He commended AIG Atayero for his outstanding leadership, dedication to duty, and the remarkable achievements recorded under his stewardship of the Academy.
The Minister offered heartfelt prayers for the Commandant’s continued success in future endeavours, emphasizing that public service is measured not only by the offices held but by the lasting impact made on institutions and the lives of others.

Reflecting on his support for the Nigeria Police Academy, Senator Geidam explained that his commitment had always been driven by a sincere desire to see the institution attain greater heights of excellence for the benefit of the Nigeria Police Force and the nation at large.

In a touching message to the outgoing Commandant, the Minister stressed that retirement from office should never signal the end of meaningful relationships built on trust and shared purpose. He encouraged AIG Atayero to maintain regular communication, assuring him that his doors would always remain open for consultations, advice, and constructive contributions, whether conveyed personally or in writing.
Observers described the visit as a powerful testament to the enduring values of gratitude, mentorship, and institutional continuity. Beyond its ceremonial significance, the engagement reinforced the importance of preserving strong relationships between serving and former public officials in the collective effort to build stronger national institutions.

As AIG Patrick A. Atayero prepares to formally hand over the mantle of leadership after a distinguished tenure, his legacy is expected to be remembered for promoting professionalism, strengthening academic standards, improving infrastructure, and fostering strategic partnerships that have further positioned the Nigeria Police Academy as a leading institution for police education and leadership development in Nigeria.

The forthcoming Pulling-Out Parade is expected to attract senior government officials, top police officers, members of the diplomatic and academic communities, traditional rulers, and other distinguished guests who will gather to celebrate the Commandant’s years of dedicated service and contributions to the growth of the Academy.
