Nigerian Doctors urges NMA President Ojinmah to finish well, as Kogi Chairman Tasks Ex WMA President on credible polls
Ahead of the forthcoming National Officers Committee, (NOC) election, some Doctors in the Country have urged the President, Nigerian Medical Association, (NMA) Dr Uche Rowland Ojinmah to finish his tenure successfully without any negative report.
Some doctors who spoke to our correspondent on Tuesday evening said the upcoming NOC election will serve as a litmus test for a positive or negative legacies of the outgoing administration.
The doctors who noted that, they have continued to raise the outgoing President very high for his exemplary leadership in the last two years said he should not be deceived by enemies of the association who never wanted NMA national to move forward.
While passing a vote of confidence on the leadership of Dr Ojinmah, the medical practitioners who never wanted their names in print disclosed that that they are very confident that the forthcoming NMA NOC elections, will not only be peaceful, free, fair and credible, but will be largely accepted by all the Contestants across the Country.
Their words “We are very confident on the leadership of Dr Uche Rowland Ojinmah as the outgoing President of NMA. The forthcoming election will further prove to the world that he is a Man of integrity and not calamity, Although, we are having informations that some disgruntled elements who are enemies of the Country are manipulating their way to scuttle the free process by allegedly trying to use our President. We are confident he will reject their proposals.
“The President of NMA we all know will not subscribe to such disgusting, irritating and unacceptable move which will take NMA ten steps backward. We are urging the NMA President not to be distracted by these individuals, but ensure that the will of the electorates prevail in the forthcoming polls.
” He has started well, so he should not soil his hand with dirty things because of some greedy, selfish and power drunk individuals who are determined to cause division in NMA. Medical doctors in Nigeria are very determined to get the best in the forthcoming electioneering process”.
Similarly, Doctors in Kogi State and by extension, all doctors under the umbrella of the Nigerian Medical Association, (NMA) are looking forward to a free , fair and credible elections with peaceful transition in the forthcoming National Officers Committee election.
Speaking to journalists in Lokoja on Tuesday, some doctors said this year election will usher new leadership of the association that will pilot it to a greater height.
According to a doctor, who chose to remain anonymous, he said the new executive that will be elected is expected to continue the good work of the outgoing administration.
“Our expectations are very high concerning the forthcoming National Officers Committee election for our prestigious association. Doctors in Nigeria including here in Kogi State are expecting a peaceful, free, fair and credible election.
” The association is poised towards serving the nation with the best of health practices to the people. We are Professionals. We will continue to lead by example among comity of professional bodies in the world. All the doctors vying for various positions are reliable, dependable, competent and ever ready to serve the Country.
” The outgoing administration has done well and we are all proud of them. according to the constitution , they can’t be there forever because there have stipulated tenure to serve in NMA NOC. It is time to usher new administration to use their wealth of experiences to bring their best for NMA to move forward. From the preparation so far, this election will be the best in history of this professional body” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Chairman Nigeria Medical Association, (NMA) Dr Olusola Baoku has called on the immediate past President, World Medical Association, (WMA) Dr Osahon Enabulele to use his wealth of experience to ensure and guide us throughout a free, fair , credible elections and peaceful transition in NMA.
Dr Baoku, described the former WMA boss as a Man of integrity known for his principle and discipline in handling any tasks before him.
The NMA Chairman in Kogi noted that his track record speaks volume, adding that, Nigerian doctors are very confident he won’t drag his good name to the mud.
He said” The immediate past President, World Medical Association Dr Osahon Enabulele is a global icon and a well known personality within and outside the chores of this Country. The task before him is very sensitive that is why we are confident that he won’t disappoint his constituency which is the medical profession as the world is always watching.
” Like what many of my colleagues have been saying, doctors wants the best process of electing our leaders. They don’t want any one who will manipulate the process, illegally disqualify candidates , cut corners who engage in sharp practices just to impose an unpopular candidate for NMA.
“This will be outrightly rejected. That is why we are re-emphacizing that our former WMA President should use all he has to ensure that the forthcoming election in NMA is free, fair, credible and acceptable by all members of NMA in Nigeria and in the diaspora”.
He appealed to all the delegates in the forthcoming election to remain calm, peaceful and ensure they elect their leaders without sentiment, favour or compromise from any quota.
In a related development, the
Nigeria Medical Association, (NMA) has cleared 29 aspirants to contest various positions in the 2024 National Officers Committee election.
Those aspirants cleared for various positions are Dr Bala Mohammed Audu, (President), Dr Kefas Paul Zawaya, (President), Dr Osaigbovo Emmanuel Osaro (1st Vice President), Dr Olowojebutu Benjamin Oluwatosin Adesoji, (1st Vice President), Dr Ighodaro Emmanuel Osaigbovo, and (1st Vice President),
Also cleared for the various positions are Dr Aramide Kolawole, (1st Vice President), Dr Bem R. Ageda, (2nd Vice President), Dr Yusuf Mohammed, (2nd Vice President), Dr Ushakuma Michael Anenga, (2nd Vice President) and Dr Audu I’m Ado, (Secretary General).
Other aspirants cleared are Dr Abubakar Abdulrahnan AKA Triple A, (Secretary General), Dr Garba Danjuma, (Secretary General), Dr Usman A. Abba, (Secretary General), Dr Lasisi Adewale J, (Deputy Secretary General), Dr Adebayo Okuwaseun Kehinde, (Deputy Secretary General), Dr George O. Ugwu, (Deputy Secretary General), Dr Falana Adewale Morufu, (Deputy Secretary General), Dr Ali Mayowa Oluwanbe, (Deputy Secretary General), Dr. J.O.T Onyia, (Deputy Secretary General), and Dr Bademoai Adedotun Adeniyi, (National Treasurer).
Still on the NMA cleared list are Dr Gbemisola A. Daramola, (National Treasurer), Dr Chibuike Mcsteve Okeke, Dr Celestine Chijioke Ugwoke, (National Treasurer), Dr Adeola Ajibare, (National Financial Secretary), Dr Ajibowo Ismail Owolabi, (National Financial Secretary), Dr Omokua Harrison A., (National Financial Secretary),
Dr Mannie Nature, (National Publicity Secretary) Dr Abubakar Dahiru, (National Publicity Secretary) and Dr Adamu Saminy Adamu, (National Publicity Secretary).
The names of all the 29 cleared Candidates is contained in the list signed by the Secretary General of the association sent to all the thirty six state branches and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja.
The NMA National Officers Committee, (NOC) election is billed to take place in Calabar on Friday 10th May, 2024.
