The Vice-Chancellor, Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba, Prof. Marietu Ohunene Tenuche, was conferred the award of the Fellowship of the National Political Science Association (NPSA), at the Association’s 34th Annual National Conference held in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.

The prestigious award presentation was witnessed by eminent scholars, past and present government officials, students, and the media. Prominent amongst the dignitaries present were the Kogi State Governor, represented by his Deputy, H.E. Elder Joel Oyibo Salifu, former Governor of Ekiti, H.E. Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic in Lokoja, Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman and the staff and Management team of Prince Abubakar Audu University, among a host of other well-meaning Nigerians.

The NPSA President, Prof. Hassan A. Saliu, noted that the Association’s Fellowship award is significant as it is the highest recognition and honour of the Association. He further hinted that the award is in recognition of the positive contribution of the awardee and a call to do more.

The VC of Prince Abubakar Audu University who accepted the award with humility appreciated the Association for finding her worthy, promised to keep making the Association proud.

Other recipients of the Fellowship Award include Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, CFR, Professor Sam Egite Oyovbaire, Professor Elo Amucheazi, Professor Alaba Ogunsanwo, Professor Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, and Professor Iistifanus S. Zabadi.

Eventful days have followed the fellowship award ceremony as the Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba has played host to Legends of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA). The President of NPSA, Prof. Hassan A. Saliu, in the company of other distinguished members of the NPSA including Prof. Sam Egwu, Prof. Victor Adetula, Prof. Adele Jinadu, Prof. W. O Alli, Prof. Ayo Dunmoye, Prof. Murtala Muhammad, Prof. Gafar Ayodeji, Prof. Jacob Audu, Dr. Margaret Apine, Prof. Tunde Agara, Dr. Vande Phillips, Dr. A. A. Mohammad, Dr. Rafiu Bakare, Prof. Sina Adebiyi, Prof. Shola Omotola, Prof. BN Makodi, and Prof. I. Zabadi, arrived at Prince Abubakar Audu University on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024. They underwent a tour of the University and graced the 2024 edition of the Professor Marietu Ohunene Tenuche Lecture Series held at the University Auditorium on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024.

The Lecture, which was organized by the Department of Political Science, had the topic “Democracy Round Table Discussion”. It focused on democracy in Nigeria and saw the Legends of NPSA in a robust round table discussion, which was well attended by students and academic members of the University Community.

In her remarks at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Marietu Ohunene Tenuche, welcomed the Principal Officers of the University, Executives, and Members of the Nigeria Political Science Association (NPSA), distinguished scholars of Political Science, and all the students present at the occasion. She noted that the event presents “a lifetime opportunity to learn from the fathers of Political Science in Nigeria”.

Through an engaging panel discussion led by Professor Hassan Salihu, President of the Nigeria Political Science Association (NPSA), panellists, comprising eight Professors, provided insights into issues such as elections and electoral matters, political parties, money politics, electoral violence, the political history of elections, the political economy of elections in Nigeria, and other issues of governance that attracted the interest and participation of the attendees.

In his remarks at the end of the round table discussion, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Olushola Jamiu Saliu, appreciated the Executive Governor of Kogi State, H.E Ahmed Usman Ododo for creating an enabling environment to hold such a conversation.

He thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Professors, and Legends of the Nigeria Political Science Association for their presence and invaluable discussions.

He also appreciated the Ogohi Onu Anyigba, Alhaji Abubakar Shaibu Okolo, and his entourage of traditional rulers for their presence.

Between Thursday, May 2nd, 2024, and Friday, May 3rd, 2024, the distinguished Legends of the NPSA have been engaged in brainstorming sessions on issues of governance and democracy in Nigeria at Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba, which is a high point of their meeting and culminating in their departure.
