Obaro Emerges Chairman of Obalufon Royal Fathers

The Obaro of Kabba and Chairman of the Okun Area Traditional Council (OATC), His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Solomon Owoniyi has emerged the Chairman of the Council of Obalufon Royal Fathers, the executive group of Yoruba traditional rulers who trace their ancestry to Obalufon Ogbogbodirin and his son, Obalufon Alayemore.
The duo were at different times the Ooni and Olofin of Ile-Ife with many of their descendants now spread all over Nigeria and beyond.
The Obaro’s appointment was announced at Erinmo, Osun State over the weekend as leading traditional rulers assembled in the Ijesa kingdom for a convocation of Obalufon Royal Fathers.
The assembly coincided with the 10th anniversary of the coronation of the Elerinmo of Erinmoland, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Michael Odunayo Ajayi Arowotawaya II, a descendant of Agidanyin, a direct son of Obalufon Alayemore, the 4th and 6th Ooni of Ife.
According to a press statement issued at the end of the convention, the Oba Owoniyi will, by the appointment, head a 10 member executive council which will pilot the affairs of the group.
The council will also appoint other members into the body as it deems fit as well as nominate prominent sons of Obalufon across Yorubaland into an ad-hoc committee that will plan the next convention of the royal fathers.
Members of the council include HRM Eburu Iba ( Secretary-General), HRM Onipokia of Ipokia, (Publicity Secretary), HRM Owajunmu of Ekiti, Onijaro of Ijaro-Ekiti and the Ologuro of Oguro.
Other members are, the Sooko Obalufon Adimula, HRM Elerinmo of Erinmo, Elejuku of Ejuku and the Akifin of Ikifinland.
The next convention of the traditional rulers will hold in Kabba next year.
