Oborevwori, Military Officers to Lay Wreaths on Armed Forces Remembrance Day

Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, JP, alongside senior military officers and other dignitaries, will on Thursday, 15 January, attend the grand finale of the 2026 Nigerian Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day in Asaba.

The Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Political and Security Services (DPSS), Governor’s Office, Mr. T. C. Aguonye, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the event will take place at the Cenotaph Complex, Asaba, and will commence at 9:00 a.m.

As part of activities marking the week-long celebration, a Jumat prayer was held on Friday, 9 January, at the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Asaba.This was followed by an interdenominational thanksgiving service on Sunday, 11 January, at St. Philip’s Anglican Church, Asaba.

Mr. Aguonye explained that the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day is a significant national event instituted by the Federal Government to honour and celebrate the courage, professionalism, and sacrifices of officers and soldiers currently serving in the Nigerian Armed Forces, while also paying tribute to fallen heroes who laid down their lives in defence of the nation’s territorial integrity and the safety of its citizens.

He added that all invited guests, members of the Armed Forces and paramilitary agencies, as well as senior government officials, are expected to be seated at the Cenotaph Complex on or before 8:30 a.m. on Thursday for the grand finale of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
