Ogbe Secondary School Effurun Wins FUPRE Science Quiz Organized in Honor of Prof Akpofure Out Going VC

Ogbe Secondary School Effurun Yesterday Tuesday April 29th Won the Special Science Quiz Competition Organized by Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun in honor of the out going Vice Chancellor Engr Prof Akpofure Rim-Rukeh With 35 Points, Orerokpe School came second with 25 Points while Osubi Secondary School took the third position with 20 Points .

The event Which was held at the 500 capacity new auditorium featured selected secondary schools from Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Areas of Delta State and all the participants got cash awards and certificates of Participation signed by the Vice Chancellor.

Prof Ikuobase Emovon , the Chief Judge,Mrs Maria Odiakaose and DR Mrs Ogwuche Christiana Ene the first and second moderator Who made up the moderating panel gave the list of the Schools participating as Ugbomro Secondary School, Ugbolokposo Secondary School, Ogbe. Secondary School, Oha Secondary School, Eradaiye Secondary School, Ugolo, Orerokpe Secondary School, and
Osubi Secondary School .

that the Quiz is based on Chemistry, Biology , Physics and General Environment

In his welcome address the Out going Vice Chancellor Engr Prof Akpofure Rim-Rukeh on behalf of Governing Council, Senate, Management, staff and students of University, welcomed all to the special science quiz competition.
He disclosed that what informed his decision to choose to organize the Science Quiz competition was the fact that he represented Okitie – Eboh Grammar School in Science Quiz competition in 1977 and 1978 in the old Bendel State. He disclosed that that experience moulded him into the scientist he is today.
Looking back, he said: “l felt there was need to reflect on the wonderful memories we had when I was evolving through this path, to also encourage young talents who would become like me tomorrow.”

He assured all the participants that the fact that they made it up to the point of participating in the Quiz competition, they should consider themselves future students of FUPRE the great citadel of learning.
Engr Prof Akpofure stressed that the opportunity is there for them to embrace through continuous hard work and hope in God Almighty.
He urged them to build their confidence and believe in themselves.

The Chairperson of the event Prof Mrs Doris Ogeleka, Vice Chancellor Admin in her opening remarks stated that the event is targeted to discover and groom young brains in STEM subjects and to encourage them in studying Very serious from the foundation age.
Prof Ogeleka appreciated the VC for introducing this practice to the University community adding that it will be adopted as culture to be observed for the exit of any Vice Chancellor Who successfully completes his or her tenure.

She commended the distinguished strides of Engr Prof Akpofure Rim- Rukeh Who brought about exponential growth and development to the University in his five years on the saddle as the Vice Chancellor of FUPRE.

She announced a cash Prize of one hundred thousand for the first prize for Ogbe Secondary School,seventy five thousand for the second prize for Orerokpe Secondary School while fifty thousand naira went to Osubi Secondary School for the Third Prize. All participants and their teachers got cash prizes to make the event a truly win win for all. The elated Wife of the Vice Chancellor Mrs Mercy Akpofure Who was pleased with the honor bestowed on her husband for the meritorious service doubled the cash Prizes which made the first prize to become two hundred thousand, the second prize one hundred and fifty thousand while the 3rd Prize became one hundred thousand

Prof Ikuobase Emovon the Chief Judge of the day Who was impressed with the intellectual display of the winners also announced a cash donation of ten thousand naira to Odime Maro and Okouromu Rejoice Who led Ogbe Secondary School Effurun to take the first Prize in the Special Science Quiz competition.

The FUPRE Science Quiz Winners,
Master Odime Maro and Miss Okouromu Rejoice both of whom represented and led Ogbe Secondary School to win the first Prize in the Quiz competition in their speeches appreciated their teachers, who prepared them for the intellectual battle. The two Champions also thanked the VC who made it possible by providing the platform for them to showcase their talents. They dedicated the glory to God Almighty.

Dr Mrs Jane Omoyine the Registrar Who took the vote of thanks appreciated Ogbe Secondary School which inspite of their marshy environment, could do so wonderfully well by taking the first position. She prayed for the VC to be remembered by Nigeria for higher service to his father land. She gave special thanks for all Who attended to make the event worthwhile and truly memorable.
