Ohanaeze Ndigbo Women’s Wing Kano State Chapter Lauds Governor Abba Yusuf for N260 Million Women Empowerment Scheme.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Women’s Wing, Kano State Chapter, under the leadership of Ambassador Nkeiruka Patience Okereke, has expressed deep gratitude to His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Executive Governor of Kano State, for his ongoing N260 million empowerment program benefiting 5,200 women across the state.

In a statement on behalf of the thousands of women in Kano, Ambassador Okereke commended Governor Yusuf’s commitment to alleviating poverty and supporting women through a direct financial intervention. The scheme, which provides N50,000 to each beneficiary, is being disbursed across the 44 local government areas (LGAs) of the state. The initiative targets 100 women from each of the 36 rural LGAs and 200 women from the eight metropolitan LGAs, demonstrating the administration’s inclusive approach.

Ambassador Okereke emphasized that this empowerment program is a significant step towards economic upliftment for women, particularly those involved in small-scale businesses. The monthly grant is intended to help these women become self-reliant and provide better support for their families, alleviating the economic burden they often face.

Governor Yusuf had introduced the scheme as part of his campaign promise to empower women and improve their welfare. He also noted that the initiative serves as a payback to women for their overwhelming support during the 2023 elections. In addition to the financial empowerment, the administration has undertaken the renovation and upgrading of hospitals, with a focus on maternity and pediatric units, further easing the challenges faced by women and children in accessing healthcare.
