Okun People in Diaspora – America, Canada Donate 400 units of Lecture-Room Furniture to Kogi State University, Kabba, Kogi State
We joyfully received the news of the first university established by the government of Kogi State in Okunland in the year 2023. We, at Okun Development Association, North America have been watching closely the progress made towards the development of Kogi State University (KSU, Kabba) in terms of their infrastructural projects and equipment supplies. We are committed to supporting educational aspirations and the development of our young men and women, being quite informed that acquiring quality education resides in the DNA of our Okun people.
To show our support, we wholeheartedly responded in kind by connecting with the Vice Chancellor, Professor E.K. Eniola who identified the critical needs and solicitated some help from ODA-NA in the early months of the year 2024. One of the needs identified is furniture for students to sit and write in their lecture halls. Okun people in Diaspora residing in the United States of America and Canada made generous donations through our fund-raising efforts spearheaded by the Executive and Committee members of the Association. By August 2024, ODA-NA purchased and transported 400 units of furniture for the lecture halls of Kogi State University, Kabba.
Okun Development Association, North America is a non-profit organization, headquartered in Seattle, Washington State, USA. The organization is a membership driven establishment that exists primarily to be our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers in diaspora and to extend what we call “our labor of love” to our people in Okunland back home. Our mission is to support developmental plans and aspirations of homeland, promote unity, as well as support fundamental human rights of Okun people in particular, Kogi State and Nigeria generally.
Since ODA-NA inception in 2021, we have severally extended assistance to our homeland in various ways through sponsorships and execution of capital project initiatives, including community safety equipment across the five local governments and Oworo District of Okunland in Kogi State.
While we recognize the immense needs all around, it is a fundamental goal and desire of ODA-NA to focus on assisting in jointly developing the future leaders of our Okunland onto whom the baton will be passed to continue building on legacy of our Okun resiliency spirits and deeper urgency of unity without being left behind in multidimensional aspects of human development. May God continue to be our guide onwards.
