OLUMOKO TO BE HONOURED AT OGIDI DAY FESTIVAL 2026 FOR EXEMPLARY SERVICE AND COMMUNITY IMPACT

Hon. Funsho Ekundayo Olumoko, Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin and founder of the Ogidi Omo Movement, will receive an Award of Commendation at this year’s Ogidi Day Festival for his outstanding contributions to community development and humanitarian service.

The honour will be conferred during the Ogidi Day Festival 2026, scheduled for Saturday, 20th June, 2026 at the Community Ground, Agegbe, Ogidi in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State. Organizers say the award is in recognition of Olumoko’s “exemplary service, unwavering dedication, hard work, commitment, and tireless support to humanity,” virtues that have left a lasting impact on the people of Ijumu and beyond.

A two-time chairman of Ijumu LGA, having served in 2007 and again in 2010, Olumoko is widely credited with laying development foundations during his tenure and maintaining a strong connection with grassroots communities since leaving office. His leadership style, described by organizers as “service-driven and people-focused,” has continued to resonate through various empowerment initiatives.

The most recent landmark achievement linked to Olumoko is the Ogidi Omo Movement empowerment programme held in December 2025. During the programme, several millions of naira in cash support were donated to members across Ijumu LGA. The gesture provided direct financial relief to families, small business owners, and vulnerable groups, and was praised as one of the most significant community interventions in recent years. For many beneficiaries, the empowerment drive represented more than monetary aid — it was a renewed sense of hope and belonging.

“With sincere appreciation, we acknowledge your contributions which have made a lasting impact on Ijumu and our community,” the organizers stated in their citation to Olumoko. “In recognition of these outstanding virtues, an Award of Commendation will be presented to you at the Ogidi Day Festival this year.”

As Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, Olumoko has also played a pivotal role in advancing education and institutional development at the federal level. Stakeholders say his dual role in academia and community leadership reflects a consistent commitment to building human capacity and strengthening institutions that serve the public good.

The Ogidi Day Festival, an annual cultural celebration that draws indigenes, dignitaries, and well-wishers from across Nigeria and the diaspora, will use this year’s edition to spotlight individuals whose service has elevated the community. Organizers noted that Olumoko’s presence at the event will further celebrate the landmark achievement with family, friends, and supporters.

“We celebrate you and look forward to honoring you at the event,” the planning committee said, inviting all sons and daughters of Ogidi to attend and witness the recognition of one of their own.

The 2026 festival is expected to feature cultural displays, traditional rites, lectures, and empowerment activities aimed at preserving Ogidi heritage while promoting unity and development in Ijumu LGA. With security arrangements already being coordinated and dignitaries confirming attendance, the event is shaping up to be one of the largest gatherings in the community’s recent history.

For the people of Ogidi, Hon. Olumoko’s award represents morekrd than personal recognition. It is a celebration of selfless leadership, sustained commitment to grassroots welfare, and the power of giving back — values the Ogidi Day Festival continues to uphold.
