Your Excellency,

RE: A HUMBLE APPEAL FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE DAWAKIN KUDU–LAHADIN MAKOLE ROAD.

On behalf of the peace-loving and law-abiding people of Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, I write this open letter with the utmost respect, humility, and confidence in your compassionate leadership. We sincerely appreciate your commitment to the development of Kano State and your efforts to improve infrastructure, education, healthcare, water supply, and other sectors that directly affect the lives of our people.

Your Excellency, despite these commendable achievements, there remains one issue that continues to cause immense hardship and suffering to thousands of citizens in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area—the deplorable condition of the Dawakin Kudu–Lahadin Makole Road.

This road has become a symbol of unfulfilled promises over many years. Successive administrations repeatedly included it in annual budget proposals, yet the project has never been completed. Election after election, political leaders have promised to reconstruct this road, using it as a campaign pledge to secure the support of our people. Sadly, once elections are over, the road is forgotten, leaving the people to endure the same hardship.

Your Excellency, the people of Dawakin Kudu placed enormous hope in your administration. Many believed that your government would finally address this long-standing challenge. Unfortunately, despite our expectations and repeated appeals, the road remains in its current deteriorated state.

We understand that the responsibilities of governing Kano State are enormous. However, we are concerned by reports from some officials representing your administration in Dawakin Kudu, who have allegedly told members of our community that they have repeatedly informed Your Excellency about this road but that it is “not among the government’s priorities.” We find it difficult to believe that such a position reflects your personal commitment to fairness and equitable development. Nevertheless, the continued neglect of this road is creating that impression among the people.

Recently, your administration approved major road projects worth billions of naira, alongside significant investments in schools, healthcare, and water infrastructure. We commend these decisions because development should reach every part of Kano State. However, the continued omission of the Dawakin Kudu–Lahadin Makole Road raises understandable concerns among our people, who feel they deserve equal attention as citizens of Kano State.

Your Excellency, we respectfully ask: what has the people of Dawakin Kudu done to deserve this continued neglect? Did we not contribute to the democratic process? Are there circumstances preventing the execution of this project that the public does not know? If, in any way, our community has fallen short, we humbly ask for your forgiveness, although we sincerely believe we have committed no offence deserving such hardship.

At the same time, we wish to express our profound appreciation for the roads your administration has constructed in our area, particularly the road from Dorawar Na’Aba through Sabon Garin Yankatsare, linked the Mariri Road and the road leading into Yankatsare town. These projects have positively impacted many lives, and we remain grateful.

However, the suffering along the Dawakin Kudu–Lahadin Makole Road has reached a critical level. Every rainy season, the road becomes almost impassable. Entire communities are effectively cut off from hospitals, schools, markets, and government services. Pregnant women travelling for antenatal care or emergency delivery face life-threatening delays because motorcycles and tricycles are often unable to pass through the flooded and damaged sections of the road. Families live with the constant fear that a loved one may die simply because medical care cannot be reached in time.

The people of Madawa, Kode, Kantsi, Busaye, Unguwar Duniya, Dakatsale, Wasko, Yan Doya, Kanwa, Santolo, and many other surrounding villages continue to endure these conditions. Thousands of farmers cannot transport their produce to markets, traders suffer devastating financial losses, schoolchildren struggle to attend classes safely, and patients are unable to access healthcare when they need it most.

Beyond these humanitarian concerns, the poor condition of the road has created serious security challenges. Commercial activities have slowed significantly, agricultural production has been affected, emergency services are delayed, and many residents avoid travelling on the road after sunset due to safety concerns. In many instances, movement becomes extremely risky, exposing innocent citizens to robbery, assault, and other criminal activities.

Your Excellency, this is no longer merely a question of infrastructure. It is a matter of public safety, economic survival, access to healthcare, education, and the dignity of our people.

For years, we have written several letters appealing for government intervention. Unfortunately, we have not received the response we had hoped for. We sincerely believe that these appeals may not have reached your personal attention. We therefore pray that this open letter will receive your consideration.

The people of Dawakin Kudu are not asking for special treatment. We are simply asking for fairness, equity, and inclusion in the development agenda of Kano State. We respectfully appeal to your administration to prioritise the reconstruction of the Dawakin Kudu–Lahadin Makole Road so that lives can be saved, economic activities restored, and hope returned to our communities.

Your Excellency, history remembers leaders not only by the offices they occupied but by the lives they transformed. We firmly believe that your administration has the opportunity to end decades of neglect by approving and executing this important road project.

We remain hopeful that you will hear the collective cry of the people and respond with the compassion and fairness for which your leadership has become known.

May Almighty Allah continue to grant you wisdom, strength, good health, and success as you continue to serve the people of Kano State.

Please accept the assurances of our highest esteem and respect.

Yours faithfully,

Hon. Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu
