Orelope-Adefulire Mourns Passing of Akran of Badagry

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs) Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, OFR, has described as a great loss, the passing of the Akran of Badagry, His Majesty De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, who died at the age of 89.

In a condolence statement released on Tuesday by her Special Assistant on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communications, Desmond Utomwen, the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State described the late monarch as a revered traditional ruler whose reign was marked by peace, cultural preservation and commitment to community development.

The Presidential Adviser on SDGs noted that Oba Menu-Toyi I reigned for nearly five decades, during which he distinguished himself as a custodian of Badagry’s rich cultural heritage and a strong advocate for unity and harmony within the kingdom and Lagos State at large.

According to her, the late monarch’s role as the Permanent Vice-Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs further underscored his influence and contribution to traditional governance, earning him respect across communities and institutions.

“The passing of His Majesty is not only a great loss to the people of Badagry, but also to Lagos State and the nation, given his wisdom, humility and lifelong service to humanity,” the statement said.

Princess Orelope-Adefulire extended heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family of Badagry, the Chiefs and people of the kingdom, the Lagos State Government, and all Nigerians mourning the monarch’s demise, while praying for strength and comfort for those affected by the loss.
