Phinee-Bangs: The Nigerian Artiste Building Bridges Through Musical Versatility

Nigerian multi-talented recording artiste, songwriter and record-label owner, Phinee-Bangs, born Abdullahi Abdulmumin Machi, is steadily carving a distinctive identity in the Nigerian music industry through versatility, cultural expression and a commitment to connecting different sounds and cultures.
Phinee-Bangs began his musical career in 2012 and has, over the years, demonstrated an ability to navigate different genres, including Afrobeats, Afropop, Afro-fusion, Pop, Hip-Hop and Rap.
Rather than confining himself to one musical style, the artiste has built his creative identity around experimentation and diversity, with a vision of bringing different languages, rhythms, cultures and musical influences together.

His recording journey started in 2012 with the release of “Levels Do Change,” followed later that year by “Shoki.” In 2013, he released “Sweet Potato,” further establishing himself as an emerging voice in the Nigerian music scene.
In May 2015, Phinee-Bangs released “2015 Boiz,” a record that marked another important stage in his developing career.
Debut EP
A major milestone in his musical journey came in January 2017 with the release of his debut EP, “Emi Bangs Yoo.”
The five-track project documented a significant phase of his artistic development, with “Enemies” serving as the fifth and final track.
The project remains his first and only EP released to date, according to his official biography.
Phinee-Bangs has also maintained a strong collaborative spirit, working with other artistes as part of his efforts to expand his musical reach.
Around June 2016, he collaborated with Obustar on “Girl 2fine.” He also featured on “Birthday,” a collaborative record involving Obustar, Phinee-Bangs and Emmy K4.
Taking Nigerian Sound Beyond Borders
Phinee-Bangs’ international profile received a boost in 2020 when he participated in “Covid19,” an international musical collaboration owned by Zambia-based DJ Munali.
The project brought together artistes from different countries, including Zambia, Ghana, Jamaica and Nigeria.
Participants included DJ Munali, Queen Rose, Dav Zambia and Ignacio Marion from Zambia; The King from Ghana; Vibez Caliber from Jamaica; and Phinee-Bangs representing Nigeria.
The collaboration reportedly enjoyed significant airplay in Zambia, with additional radio exposure in Ghana and Nigeria.
For Phinee-Bangs, the project represented more than another musical release. It demonstrated his ambition to use music as a platform for cross-border cultural exchange and to connect Nigerian sounds with audiences and artistes across Africa and beyond.
From Artiste to Record-Label Owner
Another defining chapter in Phinee-Bangs’ career began in December 2017 following his departure from Adagba’s imprint.
He subsequently established his own record label, K₂NS — Known Symbol Known Nation, taking on a new role as a record-label owner and talent developer.
K₂NS reflects Phinee-Bangs’ philosophy of embracing musical diversity rather than restricting artistes to a particular genre.
The label’s roster includes Dobulow and Bilal, whose musical identities are rooted largely in Hip-Hop and Rap.
Through K₂NS, Phinee-Bangs has expanded his influence beyond his personal recording career, creating room for other artistes to develop their individual identities and explore different musical styles.
A Vision Beyond Genre
At the heart of Phinee-Bangs’ artistic philosophy is versatility.
His repertoire cuts across Afrobeats, Afropop, Afro-fusion, Pop, Hip-Hop and Rap, but his ambition extends beyond simply combining genres.
