Explaining the essence of the training to Students in Secondary Schools, Akande said “The essence of the training is to disseminate information to students in secondary about the Child right law in Kogi State. This will make them to have an indebt knowledge about what the law entails and to ensure their to know their right and when it is infringes upon in the society.

“It will expose them to who they can report to which will enable them get the needed justice. This will enable them to speak up and ignore the habit of silence when their rights have been violated”.

According to her, the organizations intends to create more awareness on the Child right law among the young people in Kogi State. “We discovered recently that the issues of early Child marriage, Gender Based Violence, are rampard in this Country.

Akande said ” This Children are not exempted, because most of them have been facing assault, molestation and Gender Based Violence in their vicinities. This training will make them to be better informes in order to further prevent their right from being violated in Kogi State”.

She, however, lamented on the poor implementation of the child right law in Kogi State noting that institutions should raise their awareness campaign to enable people speak up when their rights have been violated.

Akande expressed optimism that the students will cascade the knowledge of the training to their class mates in the School.

In her lecture, the immediate past Chairperson, International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Barr. Lilian Ajuma Okolo argued that the Child right law is very pivotal for the overall development of the Child.

“It actually spell out the rights of every Child, their duties and responsibilities of parents or guardian. Is like a manual for every Child, Parents and Caregivers. Is very important that stakeholders, children know the content of the Child right law. It is when they know the content that they can actually practice what ever that is contained in it”Okolo added.

On their part, some of the Teachers who attended the training commended PIBCID and Nigerian Women Trust Fund for always being at the forefront in protecting the right of Children in the Country.

According to them, the training will further develop the minds of the Students as they are now better equipped to know their rights and when it is violated.

“This training is a welcome development for our Students who we are modelling for a brighter future. Before now, many of them don’t event know that the Child right law has been domesticated in Kogi State which is highly commendable.
