Plateau Mourn: As Prof. Izam Passed away

It is a moment of grief and sorrow in Plateau State as the former President of Nigerian Builders, Pioneer Provost of College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies, Vice Chancellor, Plateau State University, Builder, Professor Yohana Daniel Izam, passed on Monday night, 19th January, 2026, at his residence in Jos.

His sudden demise sent shockwaves across the state.

Since then, people have been flocking to his residence to pay their condolences, with some sharing tributes and messages of condolence in various media, eulogizing the deceased.

Among those that have paid their condolences include Rt. Hon Idris Wase, former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Senator Joshua Dariye, former Governor and senator, said his friend is gone, Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Isa Ajiji, Members representing Quan’Pan, Shandam and Mikang Federal Constituency, Hon. John Dafang,Jos East/ Jos South, Alfred Ajang, Jos North/Bassa,Daniel Asama,Mangu/ Bokkos, David Lalau.

Other sympathisers include His Royal Majesty, Abang Agwom Afizere, Rev. Dr. Isaac Azi Wakili and all the Traditional Rulers of Afizere Nation, Emir of Kanam, Babaagida Mu’azu,Afizere Cultural and Community Development Association (ACCDA) AYM, Izere Elders Council, Executive Chairman of Jos East local Government Council, also leading a powerful delegation to convey their Condolence.

The Vice Chancellor, Plateau State University, Prof Shedrack Gaya Best were also at his residents, a fronline politician and a philanthropist, Ambassador Chris Giwa, University of Jos, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tanko Ishaya.

Other Groups and individuals from all walks of life are not left behind as they are paid tributes to the late Erudite Scholar who was described as a mentor, Community Leader who impacted grately on the lives of both old and younger generations.

They described the late Professor as the man of great humility and a pillar of human Development Ambassador. His lifetime was full of inspiration and employment of so many Youths and empowering them in all fields of Human endeavours.

The All Progressives Congress ( APC) in Plateau State,in a condolence message said, Izam died at the moment the Party need his wise counsel, prayed for the reposed of his Soul. Before his demised, he was the Majidadin Kugwi, Ikpaar of Fursum. His Burial will be announced by the Family.
