PRESIDENT TINUBU PENS TRIBUTE TO GENERAL ABDULSALAMI ABUBAKAR ON HIS BIRTHDAY
President Bola Tinubu has extended his warmest congratulations to General Abdulsalami Abubakar, the former Head of State, on his 83rd birthday.
In a heartfelt tribute, signed by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser Media and Strategy, President Tinubu praised General Abubakar’s decades of exceptional service to Nigeria, both in and out of uniform, highlighting his commitment to peace, stability, and good governance.
The President lauded General Abubakar’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s transition to democratic rule in 1999, describing his peaceful handover of power as a watershed moment in the nation’s history.
Tinubu also commended General Abubakar’s ongoing contributions as Chairman of the National Peace Committee, where he promotes dialogue, reduces tensions, and ensures credible electoral processes.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State also paid tribute to General Abubakar, calling him a symbol of patriotism and statesmanship. “General Abdulsalami Abubakar remains a beacon of hope and a shining example of selfless service,” the Governor said. “His commitment to peacebuilding, national unity, and good governance continues to inspire generations of Nigerians.”

I celebrate the 83rd birthday of former Head of State and elder statesman, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd).
I salute him for his decades of exceptional service to Nigeria, both in uniform and in retirement, and commend his steadfast commitment to peace, stability, and good governance across the African continent.
General Abubakar’s legacy, particularly his role in leading Nigeria through a peaceful transition to democratic rule in 1999, remains a watershed moment in the nation’s history. His selfless act of handing over power paved the way for Nigeria’s Fourth Republic and strengthened the principle of constitutional democracy.
As Chairman of the National Peace Committee, General Abubakar has continued to play a significant role in promoting dialogue, defusing tension, and ensuring credible electoral processes in Nigeria.
