PTI Positioned for Excellence in The Provision of Oil , Gas Industry Education

Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji, Principal and Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to delivering world-class technical and vocational education tailored to the oil and gas industry.
He made this statement during the 2024/2025 Combined Academic Session Matriculation Ceremony for full-time and School of Industrial Continuing Education students, held at the institute’s conference center on Friday, March 28, 2025.
Congratulating the 1,625 newly admitted students, Dr. Onoji stated: “Today marks a significant milestone in your academic journey, and I am honored to share this experience with you. PTI has established international collaborations and industry partnerships that enhance our curriculum, facilities, and research capabilities to bridge skill gaps in the oil sector.”
He highlighted PTI’s role in training middle-level manpower for the oil and gas industry, ensuring students are equipped with the skills and knowledge to excel in this dynamic field. He further advised students to maintain discipline and integrity, emphasizing the institute’s zero-tolerance policy towards examination misconduct, cultism, drug abuse, certificate forgery, and other social vices.
Dr. Onoji also urged students to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), designed to ease financial burdens. He confirmed that PTI received its first NELFUND disbursement on February 11, 2025, and successful applicants had already received payments.
He assured parents and guardians of PTI’s commitment to academic excellence and character development, urging students to seize every learning opportunity. The matriculation event was a celebration of a new academic journey, with students from diverse fields including Computer Science, Electrical Electronics Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Welding Engineering, and more.
One of the matriculating students, Oghenemaro Great from the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, expressed his joy: “I am grateful to God Almighty for this opportunity. After all the rigorous experiences, it is heartwarming to be part of PTI.”
