Rt. Hon. Elder Sunday Festus Akpan Honoured as Best Performing Council Chairman in Akwa Ibom

The Executive Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sunday Festus Akpan, has been honoured with the Best Performing Executive Chairman in Akwa Ibom State Award, 2026 in recognition of his outstanding leadership, grassroots development and commitment to the welfare of his people.
The prestigious award was presented to Akpan during the 16th Public Lecture and Induction Ceremony organised by Democracy Newsline Newspaper, held recently at the Banquet Hall of the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.

The recognition, according to the organisers, was in appreciation of the council chairman’s contributions to effective local government administration, community development and people-oriented leadership in Oruk Anam Local Government Area.
Rt. Hon. Elder Sunday Festus Akpan has continued to attract commendation for his administration’s focus on grassroots development and initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of residents of the local government.
Speaking after receiving the award, Akpan expressed appreciation to the management and editorial board of Democracy Newsline Newspaper for finding him worthy of the recognition.
He dedicated the award to the Executive Governor of Alkwa Ibom, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno and the people of Oruk Anam Local Government Area, describing the honour as an encouragement to do more in providing purposeful leadership and delivering dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
The award ceremony brought together prominent political leaders, public servants, traditional rulers, entrepreneurs, community leaders and other distinguished Nigerians who were recognised for their contributions to society.
The 16th Public Lecture and Induction Ceremony also featured discussions on contemporary issues affecting Nigeria’s democracy, governance and sustainable development, with awardees drawn from different sectors of national life.
