SDGs ; Edo NYSC Orientation Camp Partners Florish Foundation Mobilises Corps Ambassadors

Train 1961 Crops Members, Attracts 122 SDGs Volunteers, Graduates 75

The Edo State National Youth Service Corps NYSC Orientation Camp in Okada has partnered with Florish Foundation For Women and Youths, a non governmental organization, NGO to acquaint and sensitise prospective youth Corps members on the workings of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs with a view to domesticating it’s activities.

The three day training which ended on Wednesday commenced with 120 corps members out of the 2000 on the camp, with 75 volunteers determined to take the global program and it’s 17 global goals to the nooks and crannies of the country during and after the service year .

In view of the determination of the SDGs decade of action 2020-2030 Agenda few years away , the new corps members, volunteers and implementors will attract government at all levels , non governmental organizations, NGOs, the private sector , public spirited individuals and well to do in the society to imbibe the SDGs 17 Goals.

While speaking at the occasion, Florish Foundation representative, Chinwendu Augusta Nwachukwu, sensitized the corps members numbering 1961 out of the 2000 Corps members on the camp with the SDGs schedule Officer, Mr Cosmas who introduced the lecture program.

The session also witnessed key insights on the 17 SDGs Goals were shared, geared towards fostering awareness and inspiring active participation towards sustainable development.

The Development Knowledge Facilitators, DKF inducted, equipped with the knowledge and skills to drive awareness and to promote the achievement of the SDGs 17 Goals within their communities of primary assignment.

Speaking at the event during the induction of Development Knowledge Facilitators, DKF, the Camp Director for Edo orientation camp, Mr Hakeem Adewuyi who represented the Edo state NYSC, Coordinator, Fashina Adedotun urged Corps members to replicate what they learnt during the training, stating that the UN SDGs is significant to the development of nations .

The initiatives , according to him reflects a strong commitment to empowering young people as catalysts for sustainable change and education towards bringing a lasting solution to development gap, deploying the 17 SDGs Goals as a point of contact.

He charged the Corps members to demonstrate and apply not only the knowledge acquired, but serve as a link and agents towards the continuous education on the importance of the UN 17 SDGs Goals during and after their primary assignments in the state .

He further stated, “we also had similar program during the last orientation camp in January were over 75 SDGs volunteers were trained, and intends to continue in this trend.”

Also speaking, the service innovation officer , Waheed Ozeto advised corps members to inculcate the training into the larger society.

Highlights of the occasion included the graduation ceremony of the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs 75 volunteers, ambassadors, Development Knowledge Facilitators DKF’s, which marked a significant milestone in building capacity for sustainable development advocacy of the Youth Corps members, towards advancing the 17 SDGs Goals in view of the decade of action, 2020-2030 agenda.
