Stakeholders in Niger Delta’s Oil and Gas Sector recently Convened in Abuja for High-Level Consultations

The momentum for intellectual militancy and strategic advocacy in the Niger Delta’s oil and gas sector has taken a significant leap forward as critical stakeholders and industry leaders converged in Abuja to deliberate on key issues affecting the region.

This high-powered consultation, which took place on April 1, 2025, marks the groundwork for the much-anticipated Second Edition of the Warri Oil and Gas Summit, 2025. The summit is poised to drive policy discussions, strengthen indigenous participation in the industry, and address the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, particularly its Host Community Development Trust Fund provisions.

According to Dr. Akpo Mudiaga Odje, the Convener of the Warri Oil and Gas Summit, this year’s edition aims to push forward progressive reforms that will empower local communities and create a sustainable framework for equitable resource distribution in the region.

A Platform for Advocacy and Industry Growth
The Warri Oil and Gas Summit has grown into a major intellectual and industry-driven gathering, where policymakers, corporate leaders, community representatives, and activists deliberate on critical issues affecting the oil and gas sector.

At the core of this year’s summit are two fundamental focus areas:

Reviewing the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 – The discussions will center on strengthening the Host Community Development Trust Fund, ensuring that local communities receive direct and tangible benefits from oil and gas activities in their areas.

Promoting Indigenous Participation in the Oil and Gas Sector – The summit will explore policies that empower Nigerian-owned oil and gas firms, fostering greater economic benefits for the region’s citizens.

Comrade Paul Ohobamu Esq , the Commissioner for information in Edo State, widely known as Aluta/Equity, emphasized that the Warri Oil and Gas Summit is a crucial advocacy platform, bringing together the best minds to analyze the existing gaps in policy implementation and push for reforms that will guarantee sustainable community development.
