Former Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, was on Wednesday arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
Security sources told Democracy Newsline that Nnaji was apprehended in the early hours of the day while preparing to board a private jet to Abuja. The sources said the arrest was carried out by the DSS following a request from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which is investigating allegations relating to his tenure as minister.
According to the sources, the ICPC had previously invited the former minister on several occasions over petitions alleging irregularities in the management of the Ministry of Science and Technology. They claimed that after he allegedly failed to honour the invitations, the anti-graft agency sought the assistance of the DSS to effect his arrest.
One security source said Nnaji has since been handed over to the ICPC for further investigation.
Nnaji resigned from office in October 2025 amid public controversy surrounding questions over his academic qualifications. As of the time of filing this report, neither the DSS nor the ICPC had issued an official statement on the arrest, and the former minister had not publicly responded to the allegations.
