The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, has commended the Kogi State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Bashar, for his professionalism and contributions to tackling banditry, kidnapping and maintaining political stability in the state.
Senator Karimi made the commendation in a statement made available to the media yesterday in Lokoja, where he acknowledged the DSS Director’s commitment to security operations, particularly his active involvement with field personnel in efforts to combat criminal activities across the state.
The Senator praised Bashar for what he described as his hands-on approach to security operations, noting that his willingness to work closely with personnel in the field demonstrated his commitment to addressing security challenges, especially banditry and kidnapping.
He also commended the DSS Director for maintaining political neutrality in handling political matters in the state, stressing that security agencies must remain professional and impartial in the discharge of their responsibilities, irrespective of political affiliations.
According to Senator Karimi, the DSS Director has continued to provide the necessary security support to prevent political thuggery, intimidation and violence during political campaigns and other public engagements.
The Senator cited an incident during one of the recently concluded town hall meetings in Kabba, where some suspected thugs allegedly dressed in police uniforms invaded the venue in the early hours of the morning in an apparent attempt to disrupt the programme.
He explained that following the receipt of a security report on the incident, the DSS Director promptly deployed his personnel to the location, thereby preventing the suspected invaders from causing damage or disrupting the event.
Senator Karimi noted that the swift intervention of the security operatives helped restore order, while the suspected invaders reportedly fled the scene.
He further stressed that the preservation of peace and political stability requires effective collaboration among security agencies, political stakeholders and members of the public.
The lawmaker urged security agencies to sustain their commitment to professionalism, intelligence gathering and proactive security measures to ensure that residents of Kogi State can go about their lawful activities without fear.
He reiterated the importance of a peaceful political environment, noting that security institutions must continue to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without political bias.
Senator Karimi’s commendation highlights the importance of effective intelligence-led security operations and political neutrality in addressing security threats and sustaining peace in Kogi State.
