Senator Barau Wins Prestigious Award as Most Distinguished Senator of 2025
Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, has been honored with the prestigious “Highest Development-Driven Bills Award” as the Most Distinguished Senator of the Year 2025 by Democracy Newsline Newspaper.
The award, announced in a press statement signed by Chief Olugbemi Femi, CEO of Democracy Newsline, recognizes Senator Barau’s outstanding legislative achievements, including sponsoring 29 private member bills in two years, focusing on education, infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and technological advancement.
Notable bills include the North West Development Commission Bill, Development Planning and Project Continuity Bill, and the Cyber Crimes (Repeal & Re-enactment) Bill. His work has impacted Northern Nigeria, establishing Federal Polytechnic Kabo and transforming Federal College of Education, Kano, into Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano.
Senator Barau was honored alongside distinguished Nigerians at the 15th Annual Public Lecture and Award Ceremony on August 26, 2025. Due to his tight schedule, the award will be presented tomorrow, November 18, at the National Assembly.
He has sponsored 70 Kano State students for postgraduate studies abroad, launched Kano North Transport Service with 107 buses, and distributed fertilizers and farming implements to local farmers. This award follows others, including an honorary doctorate from Bayero University Kano and the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) award.
