Senator Karimi, Abejide Reconcile in Isanlu as Leaders Move to End Political Differences
By Our Correspondent
Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, and the member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Leke Joseph Abejide, have reportedly reconciled following a meeting held at the palace of the Agbana of Isanlu in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The meeting, which took place yesterday, was reportedly convened to resolve the political differences between the two prominent political figures in Yagba land and pave the way for renewed cooperation.
Sources familiar with the meeting disclosed to Democracy Newsline Newspaper that three prominent traditional rulers from the Yagba area were present to facilitate the reconciliation efforts.
They are His Royal Highness, Oba Moses Etumbi, the Agbana of Isanlu and Chairman of the Yagba East Traditional Council; His Royal Highness, Oba Ayodele Irukera, the Elegbe of Egbe and Chairman of the Yagba West Traditional Council; and His Royal Highness, Oba Muyiwa Ibeun, the Elulu of Mopa and Chairman of the Mopamuro Traditional Council.
The traditional rulers reportedly played a role in bringing the two political leaders together in the interest of peace, unity and political stability across Yagba land.
A local source familiar with the development confirmed that the reconciliation efforts had yielded positive results, with both politicians now expected to work together going forward.
The reported development is significant given the positions occupied by Karimi and Abejide in the representation of Kogi West and Yagba Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.
Their renewed understanding is expected to create opportunities for dialogue and cooperation on issues affecting their constituents, particularly infrastructure, security, youth empowerment and other developmental priorities across Yagba land.
The involvement of the traditional rulers also underscores the role of traditional institutions in promoting peace, resolving disagreements and encouraging cooperation among political stakeholders.
As respected custodians of the people’s heritage and community values, traditional rulers often provide platforms for dialogue when political disagreements threaten relationships among leaders and their supporters.
Although details of the discussions and the specific terms of the reported reconciliation were not immediately available, the outcome is being viewed locally as a positive step towards reducing political tensions and strengthening cooperation among stakeholders.
The development also raises expectations that both leaders will prioritise the collective interests of their constituents and work towards addressing the developmental challenges confronting the area.
For the people of Yagba land, the reported reconciliation offers renewed hope that political differences can be managed through dialogue and mutual understanding, rather than prolonged division.
If sustained, the rapprochement between Senator Karimi and Hon. Abejide could open a new chapter in political relations in the area, with the traditional rulers’ intervention serving as a reminder of the importance of unity and constructive engagement in the pursuit of community development.
Democracy Newsline Newspaper will continue to follow developments surrounding the reported reconciliation.
