SENATOR KARIMI COMMITS OVER N2 BILLION TO PROJECTS IN KOGI WEST

Chairman of the Senate Services Committee and Senator representing Kogi West District, Sunday Steve Karimi, has committed over N2 billion to critical projects across his constituency.

The interventions span security infrastructure, education, healthcare, and road works across the seven local government areas of Kotonkarfe, Lokoja, Kabba-Bunu, Ijumu, Mopamuro, Yagba East, and Yagba West.

Speaking with journalists during the ongoing parliamentary recess, Karimi disclosed that he recently appropriated N300 million for a statewide students’ bursary scheme—bringing his total expenditure on education bursaries to N400 million over two academic sessions.

The inaugural 2024 edition benefited 100 Kogi West students with N100,000 each. This year, he extended the scheme to students in Kogi Central and Kogi East, citing a statewide thirst for education and his support for President Bola Tinubu’s development agenda.

Karimi is also working with alumni of Titcombe College, Egbe, to execute a N200 million upgrade of the institution’s facilities, including perimeter fencing, boreholes, water reticulation, a diesel generator, and building renovations.

He has additionally built and equipped a 285-capacity computer-based test (CBT) hall with laptops, solar power, a diesel generator, air-conditioning, CCTV, and restrooms, pending JAMB inspection this August.

On security, the Senator—who last year singlehandedly constructed a N750 million Forward Operating Base (FOB) for the Nigerian military—is funding a police post in Ejuku, Yagba East to complement overstretched security infrastructure. He noted that the FOB has significantly bolstered safety in border communities linking Kogi, Kwara, and Niger states.

Other ongoing projects include:

N150 million for a community hospital in Kakanda, Lokoja LGA

N100 million women and cooperative empowerment programme (2024)

N23 million for Pakuta Bridge in Kiri, Kabba-Bunu

N11.5 million to rehabilitate cold rooms for women traders in Lokoja

N10 million each for rehabilitation of central mosques in Kotonkarfe and Abugi

Karimi also continues to facilitate zonal interventions—including water supply, transformers, and streetlights—in partnership with relevant federal ministries, departments, and agencies. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring his constituents receive their due share of federal development resources, alongside targeted support for community and group initiatives.
