Senator Karimi Fulfils Pledge, Commences Construction of Solar-Powered Boreholes in Lokoja

By Our Correspondent

Senator Sunday Karimi has commenced the construction of solar-powered motorised boreholes across Lokoja Municipal, fulfilling his recent pledge to intervene in the acute water shortage affecting residents of the Kogi State capital.

It will be recalled that Senator Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, raised concerns over the worsening water situation in Lokoja during a Town Hall meeting held on Monday, August 24, where he expressed deep concern over the hardship being experienced by residents as a result of inadequate access to potable water.

The Senator disclosed that he had previously provided water tankers to cushion the effect of the water crisis during the holy month of Ramadan this year.

At the meeting, Karimi promised to facilitate the installation of five industrial solar-powered motorised boreholes in some of the communities most affected by the water shortage through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of one of the Federal Government agencies.

However, barely five days after making the commitment, construction work on the boreholes has commenced, demonstrating what observers described as a swift response to the concerns raised by residents.

Sources close to the Senator disclosed that the intervention has been expanded from the initial five boreholes promised to seven industrial solar-powered motorised boreholes, representing an additional two projects beyond the original commitment.

The development is expected to provide sustainable access to water for residents in some of the communities facing the most severe water challenges within Lokoja Municipal.

The latest intervention is also coming on the heels of Senator Karimi’s earlier provision of 22 solar-powered motorised boreholes across Lokoja Local Government Area, which have already been completed.

The series of water projects underscores the Senator’s stated commitment to addressing critical infrastructure and basic social needs within his constituency, particularly in areas where residents are confronted with challenges in accessing potable water.

Residents and community stakeholders are expected to benefit significantly from the latest intervention when the projects are completed and put into use.

The commencement of the projects has also renewed discussions among residents about the importance of sustained interventions by elected representatives and government agencies in tackling the water crisis in Lokoja, the state capital.
