Senator Sunday Karimi Bags Prestigious Award, Pledges More Support for Education Sector

ABUJA — The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, has pledged to do more for the education sector after he was honoured with a prestigious award for outstanding contributions to education.
Senator Karimi, who was represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Barrister Toye Ibitoye, received the award on his behalf as the “Best Performing Senator on Educational Support, North Central” at the 16th Public Lecture and Induction into the Good Governance Hall of Fame organized by Democracy Newsline Newspaper on Wednesday, 19th August 2026, at the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.
The event, themed “Economic Reform and Sustainable Development in a Democracy: The Nigeria Experience,” was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, and stakeholders in governance.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Karimi expressed gratitude to Democracy Newsline Newspaper and the selection committee for recognizing his efforts in education.
“This award will spur me to do more. Education is the greatest investment any nation can make in its people. As long as I remain in the Senate, I will continue to support policies, projects, and interventions that give our children access to quality and affordable education,” he said.
The Kogi West Senator highlighted some of his interventions in the education sector to include provision of scholarships, renovation of classrooms, distribution of learning materials, and facilitation of ICT centers in schools across his senatorial district.
He added that he would work with the Federal Government and relevant agencies to ensure that more schools in Kogi West benefit from federal education programs and infrastructure.
The Publisher of Democracy Newsline Newspaper said Senator Karimi was selected for the award based on his consistent advocacy and direct interventions that have improved access to education for thousands of students in the North Central zone.
Dignitaries at the event included representatives of the Hon. Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the representative of Senator Sunday Karimi, Senator representing Kogi West; Hon. Salman Idris, member representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency; Asiwaju Asiru Idris, Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning; HRH Akogun Isiaq Ajibola; former Managing Director, Daily Trust Newspaper; and representatives of Dr. Austin Orette, Prof. Igho Natufe, and President General, Okpe Development Union Worldwide, among others.
The ceremony also featured the induction of distinguished Nigerians into the Democracy Newsline Good Governance Hall of Fame for their contributions to national development.
