By Bala Salihu Dawakin kudu On Sep 20, 2024

A 40-year-old man, Jibrin Adamu, tragically took his own life by hanging in Jigawar Maroka village, Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The incident was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Lawan Shiisu, in a statement on Friday in Dutse.

According to DSP Shiisu, the deceased, who had a history of mental illness, committed the act on Thursday evening.

“On September 19, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a report reached the Command headquarters that Jibrin Adamu, aged 40, of Jigawar Maroka village, Kiyawa LGA, had taken his life by hanging himself in a classroom at Miftahul Khairat Islamiyya and Primary School, Gurdiba,” Shiisu stated.

Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Kiyawa and his team immediately proceeded to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found Adamu’s lifeless body hanging from the ceiling of a classroom in the Islamic school.

The body was later transferred to Dutse General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed his death.

The remains were subsequently handed over to his family for burial.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Adamu, who had been suffering from periodic mental health issues, would often disappear for days before returning home.

Shortly before his death, he had left home, ostensibly to fetch water near the scene of the incident.

The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa, Ahmadu Abdullahi, has ordered a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case.
