The Sokoto State Government has formally petitioned the State Commission of Inquiry, seeking an investigation into the administration of former Governor Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
The petition centers on the alleged diversion of ₦16.1 billion worth of shares, sold between 2018 and 2023, through the Sokoto State Investment Company Limited.
Counsel to the commission, Amanzi Amanzi, outlined that the Permanent Secretary (Political), Abdullahi Yabo, filed the petition on behalf of the state, highlighting concerns over the transparency and accountability of the proceeds from these share sales.
According to the petition, the state government-owned shares were sold during Tambuwal’s tenure, but the proceeds have reportedly not been properly accounted for.
The commission has been tasked with thoroughly investigating the sale process and the whereabouts of the missing ₦16.1 billion.
