1st May, 2024
The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf has congratulated workers in Kogi State on the occasion of 2024 Workers Day celebration.
This is contained in a press statement signed and made available to journalists in Lokoja by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed.
According to the statement, the speaker used the occasion to express the commitment of the 8th Kogi Assembly under him to protect the interest of the state’s workers by supporting pieces of legislation and programmes that are friendly to them.
Rt Hon Umar stressed that the current legislature in the state is committed to ensuring a healthy working environment for the labour force, noting that as a former civil servant, he understands their plight when the interest of the workers is not protected.
The Speaker stressed that the executive arm is giving the government reasons to continue to be optimistic, given the manner Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has continued to approach the issue of salaries and wages of the state labour force since his assumption of office.
“It can only get better. The labour in Kogi State have their own heading all arms of government because the Governor was a civil servant, as was the Deputy Governor and myself. So, they can be rest assured that their entitlements would not be toyed with under the current administration.
“As promised during the campaigns, the Governor has been steady in the payment of salaries of civil servants as and when due. He has also been bettering what obtained hitherto and all categories of workers have now seen that he meant well and is committed to making life better for them,” the speaker added.
He therefore enjoined members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliates to continue to support and pray for the success of the present administration to be able to do more for them and for the development of Kogi State.
