State Police will help to checkmate Security challenges in the country – Omodara

Navy Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd) has said State Policing will help to checkmate the security challenges in the country if properly packaged with an enabling legal framework.

Commander Omodara, the Kogi State Security Adviser, made this known in Lokoja on Monday while reacting to the move by President Bola Tinubu and 36 state governors to explore the option of state police in the face of upsurge in insecurity across the nation.

He described it as a landmark step that will nip security challenges in the country in the bud, if implemented.

According to him, the move is timely as the nation is passing through challenges of security in some parts of the country.

Omodara pointed out that the National Assembly has greater role to play in providing the best legal framework that will make the state police work in every geo-political zone, stressing that Kogi has all it takes to make state police work.

He added that the present administration is focused and ever ready to modify the security of former Governor Yahaya Bello with the view of making the State safe for its citizens.

Following the rising state of insecurity in the country, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with the thirty six Governors last week with the view of proffering a lasting solution to the challenge.

Parts of the resolution at the meeting is the plan for state police that has been a bone of contention in several quarters over the years.
