Statement by Hon. Abdulganiyu Abdullahi on the Recent Remarks of Senator Dino Melaye
It is with a heavy heart that I, Hon. Abdulganiyu Abdullahi, feel compelled to address the careless and disparaging comments made by Senator Dino Melaye against Hon. Leke Abejide. Senator Melaye’s tasteless remarks about Elder Abejide’s speech, dress, and public persona are not only unbecoming of a man of his stature, but they also constitute an affront to the dignity of a respected leader whom many of us believe God has placed in our midst.
The Scripture reminds us, _“Do not touch my anointed ones, and do my prophets no harm”_ (Psalm 105:15). Hon. Leke Abejide is an anointed servant of the people—one who has devoted his life to the service of the Okun community, championing peace, development, and the empowerment of our youth. To malign him without cause is to disregard the very divine mandate that undergirds his public service.
Therefore, I call upon Senator Dino Melaye to:
1. *Issue a sincere and public apology* to Hon. Leke Abejide, acknowledging the hurt caused by his words.
2. *Retract the offensive statements* and affirm his respect for the office that Elder Abejide holds.
Should Senator Melaye choose to ignore this appeal, the people of Okun will remember this moment. History has shown that those who refuse to humble themselves before the servants of the people often find their political fortunes waning. The upcoming 2027 campaign will be the arena where the electorate renders its verdict.
I stand firmly with Hon. Leke Abejide, and I urge all well‑meaning citizens to protect the integrity of our leaders and to demand accountability from those who would seek to undermine it. May God grant us the wisdom to speak with respect and the courage to defend the anointed.
_Signed,_
Hon. Abdulganiyu Abdullahi
