STRENGTHENING POLICE-INEC COLLABORATION FOR PEACEFUL ELECTORAL PROCESS IN KOGI STATE
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kogi State, Dr. Abdulwahab Shehu, today paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Nazir Bello Kankara, psc, mni, at the Command Headquarters.
The visit was aimed at fostering a stronger working relationship between INEC and the Nigeria Police Force in Kogi State, particularly in view of the critical roles both institutions play in ensuring peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral processes. The REC emphasized the importance of collaboration, noting that effective synergy between INEC and the Police is vital for the successful conduct of elections across the State.
In his response, the Commissioner of Police described INEC and the Police as “Siamese twins” whose functions are closely interlinked, especially during electoral activities. He stressed that both institutions must work in harmony to achieve their shared objective of delivering free, fair, and peaceful elections.
The CP further assured the REC of the Command’s unwavering commitment to providing adequate security before, during, and after elections. He reiterated the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force in Kogi State to support INEC in all lawful ways, ensuring that the electoral process is devoid of violence, intimidation, or malpractice.
Both parties reaffirmed their dedication to sustained collaboration, strategic planning, and continuous engagement to strengthen electoral security architecture in the State.
The Kogi State Police Command reiterates its commitment under the leadership of CP Nazir Bello Kankara, psc, mni, to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all residents. The Command urges members of the public to cooperate with security agencies and other stakeholders to promote peaceful coexistence and a credible electoral process.
