President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture, preserving national unity and creating the conditions necessary for sustainable economic development.
The President made the position known through the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, who represented him at the International Conference on National Security and Sustainable Economic Development held in Abuja.

The high-level conference was organised by the Muslim World League, in collaboration with Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), and brought together prominent religious, traditional and political leaders, as well as stakeholders and participants from across Nigeria and beyond.

The gathering provided a platform for robust discussions on the complex security challenges confronting Nigeria, Africa and the wider international community, while exploring practical approaches to achieving lasting peace, stability and inclusive economic growth.

Representing the President, Senator Barau conveyed Mr Tinubu’s appreciation to the organisers for convening the conference at a critical time when nations across the world are facing multifaceted and rapidly evolving security threats.
He said the timing of the conference was particularly significant, given the changing nature of contemporary security challenges and their growing implications for social stability, economic development and international cooperation.
Senator Barau reiterated President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to achieving sustainable security in Nigeria, stressing that the administration remains focused on consolidating the gains being recorded in the security sector while simultaneously advancing other critical areas of national development.

He challenged participants to look beyond conventional approaches to security and critically examine emerging trends capable of undermining Nigeria’s national and regional security systems.

According to him, the objective should be to develop practical, sustainable and home-grown solutions capable of addressing the root causes of insecurity and strengthening the resilience of communities and institutions.

The Deputy President of the Senate also urged participants to maximise the international character of the conference by exchanging experiences, expertise and ideas from different countries and communities.

He noted that such exchanges would enrich the ongoing search for viable solutions to the challenges of restoring sustainable peace at the regional, continental and global levels, particularly at a time of heightened global security turbulence.
Senator Barau emphasised that security and economic development are closely interconnected, noting that lasting peace provides the foundation upon which nations can build prosperous economies, attract investment, create employment opportunities and improve the welfare of their citizens.

He further stressed the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding Nigeria’s unity and stability, regardless of differences in religion, ethnicity, culture or political affiliation.
“The government remains committed to preserving our unity as a nation despite our differences. We must all work together to build a united, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President.”
The message, he said, was a call for Nigerians and other stakeholders to embrace dialogue, cooperation, tolerance and mutual understanding as essential instruments for strengthening national cohesion.

The conference also underscored the important role of religious and traditional institutions in promoting peace, countering extremism, strengthening community engagement and supporting national development.
On behalf of President Tinubu, Senator Barau commended the Muslim World League for choosing JIBWIS as its collaborative partner for the important conference and for selecting Nigeria as the host country.
He described the decision as an important recognition of Nigeria’s role in international efforts aimed at promoting dialogue, peace and sustainable development.
The conference ultimately served as a reminder that the search for peace and security requires collective action, international cooperation and sustained commitment from governments, religious bodies, traditional institutions, civil society and citizens.

As Nigeria continues to confront evolving security and economic challenges, the Federal Government’s message at the Abuja gathering was clear: sustainable peace, national unity and economic prosperity must remain shared national priorities, requiring the commitment and cooperation of all Nigerians.
