In strict compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for all Police Commands to stamp out kidnapping and other violent crimes throughout the country, the Lagos State Police Command has achieved a significant success with the busting and arrest of two vicious and notorious Pakistanis who specialize in kidnapping individuals for ransom.
A distress call was received at the Ikeja Division of the Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, reporting the kidnapping of a 48-year-old Pakistani national in Ikeja. The Anticrime patrol unit of the Division was swiftly deployed, leading to the rescue of the victim and the arrest of two of the kidnappers: Roman Gull, aged 19, and Aftab Ahmad, aged 28, both Pakistanis. Five other accomplices managed to escape.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the two arrested suspects, along with the five others, lured the victim to Lagos from his base in Kano under the false pretext of offering him a job as a chef. The suspects arranged the victim’s flight to Lagos and accommodated him in a hotel on February 28, 2025. The following day, the seven suspects visited the victim, overpowered him, tied him up, and sent a ransom demand to his employer in Kano for Fifty Million Naira, threatening to kill him if the ransom was not paid. The victim’s employer managed to pay One Million Naira three days later to buy time and subsequently alerted the Police.
Recovered from the suspects were their operational vehicle, a grey Toyota Camry, the victim’s Two Thousand Dollars cash, three ATM cards, a green card, a driver’s license, and an NIN slip. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects, and they will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the rescued victim is in good condition and has successfully made contact with his family.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has commended the officers and men of Ikeja Division for their swift and effective response, assuring both residents and visitors to Lagos State of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring their safety and security at all times.
